During the Wik ending Wednesday there were shipped from Eugene and Hallett's thirteen hundred tons of wheat, mostly belonging to the Salem Mills. (n one day thirty-seven car loads were shipped. This, at $70 per ou-, and the charges are slightly over that figure, would return the railroad 'company $2,690, very good days work. The Probate Court has ap pointed Jacob Lowe, administrator if the estate ot Phillip Lowe, and Mr. fttibee, B. R Baker and Wertlalte, appraiser. The latter tare cmpieted the apprais From the Granger. Big Cakk. On the occasion of the installation of officers of Hope Grange No. 24, Linn county, Mrs. Mary K. Werts presented to the Master of the Grange, Mr, Geo. F. Simpson, a massive fruit cake, frosted white, with the name and number ot the Grange on the top, artistically arranged, in red. It was a gorgeous cake, and tasted as well as it looked. The ladies of the Grange had arranged a splendid feast of good things, of which ail ftartook after the installation cere monies. It was a pleasant and joyous occasion to all participants If every Grange had as good a cook with as liberal a heart, not a member won be absent on occasions similar to the above. Linn- County Tax. The tax levy of Linn county for 1873, and now being rapidly collected, foots up sixty-two thousand dollars. The tax rata is sixteen mills on the dol lar. After paying the State and school tax, there will remain for county purposes about twenty-five thousand dollars. The county owes about $10,000, and at least half ot this debt will be paid this year. Officers Elected. At the annual election of the Linn ( ounty Agricultural Association, the fol lowing persons were elected as Di rectors for the year 1874 : Jason Wheeler, Jesse Parrish, S. Mont gomery, i). Froinan, and A. lit Morris. The Hoard then selected its officers as follows : M. Luper, President; Jesse Parrish, Vice President;; J. Z. Crouse, Chief Marshal; D. Froman, Treasurer; VV. W. Parrish, Secretary. The Board have not, as yet, decided 011 holding a fair the present year. Alska Vai.lky Grange. On the 31st ot December, County Dep uty, Uev. A. Simpson, organized a Grange in Alsea valley, with eigh teen charter members. Mulkey Vernon, Master; H. II. Starr, Sec retary. Organized. The Grangers of Yamhill, Washington, Multnomah and Clackamas counties met in East Portland on the 13th and organized a Central Grange. Edward Forbes President ; Mr. . Lee, Secretary. Meet on the second Tuesday of each month. 1 Central Grange. This Dotty held a meeting in our city on the 13t,hwith a full attendenee of Mas- ters and Delegates from Linn and .. .... adjoining counties. Simpson, Superintendent of the Farmers' Warehouse in this city, on Wednesday, drew from the bins into the sacks and loaded on to the Groner and Heaver, thirty-two hundred and forty sacks of wheat or 6,600 bushels. After filling, the mouth of each sack had to be sewed, and then weighed. A big day's work, we call it. Died. Mrs. Bazel, wife of Hen ry Bazel, daughter of A. W. Gor don, died this (Thursday) morning of consumption. Out Again. We were pleased to see Dr. Alexander out again, after his severe illness. Mitchell's bill appropriating money for the establishment of an assay office in Portland has been approved by the Director of the Mint, Dr. Liodermau.
