After transacting oilier necessary business, the Association adjourned to meet at the office ot Dr. Bice, in Albany, on the 1st Monday in Feb ruary. IS74, at 1 o'clock P. M. J. Linsey Hill, Sec Religious. The lecture of Elder J. M. Stephenson, at the Court House on Sunday evening last, . was largely attended. The Elder is a gentleman of fine culture, a profound thinker, and being blessed with a very retentive memory, a pleasant and easy delivery, he is able to give an attrac tiveness to these Sunday evening lectures that will doubtless give him full aiidieirtws, luring their continuance. The second lecture occurs to-morrow evening, at tlie Court House, at 7 o'clock. Subject No conflict between the Bible and Science. 1 1 will doubtless be a very interesting lecture. We learn from the Chronicle that the Grangers of California were to open, at Nos. 414 ami 416 Sansome street, San Francisco, on the 1st inst., a large tore bearing the somewhat formida ble title ot "The Dairy Produce De partment of the California State Grange." It will be, as its name iiv dicates, controlled directly by the State Orange, and primarily for the bepeflt of members of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. John H. Hegler, Master of Bodega Grange, in Sonoma county, an experienced dairy inaii, has been employed by the State Grange as its manager. Asa matter of course, the details of its .system of doing business are kept as a secret to all but Grangers; but thU much may be said, that they are such as will it is believed, not only effect an enormous reduction in tlte amounts hitherto paid by farmers and dairymen .is commis sions to the middle-men, but will abso lutely protect the Patrons of Husband ry against the numerous forms of peculation and loss to which they have hitherto been subjected. Agricultur ists who are not vet members of the Granges may sell their produce through this Orange store, by payment of the usual commissions, bjit this arrange ment Is offered merely as an accom modation to them, not as a solicitation tor their business. In time the range of trade which will be covered by this qeo-operntive store under the control of the State Oranges will, without doubt, be greatly extended, so as to cover the entire grougd of agricultural products, and for this reason the new "Dairy Produce Department" may be looked upon as the first of a aerie of deadly blows at the entire "tniddle-meu'' sys tem, and, consequenly as of the deep est interest to the entire community. PARAGRAJILETB. Jake Fleischner is with us again tor a few days. One hundred dollars is what the Onesters got away with from their New Years eve ball. Another girl added to the family of D. Mansfield, Esq. Becorder Herrcn's wife is slowly re covering. The first boat of the season to reach Hirrislmrg was the W. R. T. Co.'s steamer, Btanr. Our markets are quiet with no change iu prices since last week worthy of note. Bebekah Lodge this evening at 7 o'clock. Election of officers is what's the matter. . For the pasfcday or two the weather has been dark and stormy real Ore gon winter. Dr. Gamble has taken an office ad joining Weed's grocery store, on First street. Mr. Yant!s has invented a railroad switch which it Is thought will super sede the present style. Albany Collegiate Institute is favored with a good attendance, as.it should be. It is rumored that Judge Curtis, of Massachusetts, has been tendered the nomination of Chief Justice. Btimor litis it that a marriage is to come off" in the Presbyterian church of tins' city on Sunday, but we don't be lieve the rumor. The new woolen mill is to be erected on the Willamette river, Just below the Farmers' Warehouse, we are in formed. Freight trains on the O. & C. Rail road art; making trips every other day this week, as there is not freight enough ;o employ a daily train. The wind blew a gale on Friday, throwing down several signs, and milking buildings tremble. We don't remember to have seen as strong zephyrs in the valley before. The people of Jefferson ate anxious to have a bridge built across the Santi am at that place, the proposition being to construct it in connection with the railroad bridge, provided the Company does not object. Marion County Court has appointed viewers to locate a line ot road over the Cascade mountains. They were to qualify on Thursday, and probably will take advantage of the first favor able weather to attend to the business. A lively three-)'ear-old boy being discovered by his mother in some in fantile mischief the other day, sought safetv In flight. Being followed and asked why he ran away, he replied : "Cos I's so .'scouraged !" Business quiet; money not overly plentiful; roads muddy; health fair; weather warm enough, but rather stormy; people happy and contented, with prospect of good crops to come. From present indications, our me chanics will be crowded next season, in fact will not be able to do but a moiety of tile work in the way of erecting buildings here next season. A number of dwellings and business honses will go np as soon as the weath er will permit and lumber can be ok taiued. It bids fair to 6e the busiest season for mechanics since the first settlement. FLOtTRMHISG. The financial condition of the national organization of the Gran gers seems to be enjoying first-class financial prosperity. After expending $50,000 during the past year In pre preparing and distributing documents and pamphlets for the subordinate Oranges, explanatory of the objects and purposes of the organization, and in furnishing books arrrh implements for their work, the treasury is still so plethoric that the Conhdjttee having its management have determined to make a permanent investment of forty thousand dollars in United States reg istered bonds. After this Is done there will still be upwards of ten thousand dollars on hand in the treasury as a working fund. From this showing it will be apparent that more than $100, 000 were contributed by the Patrons of Husbandry dur'ng the twelvemonth just passed. As large as this sum may seem, it is confidently asserted it will be very largely Increased during the coming year. The growth of the Or der all over the United States lias been unprecedentedly rapid in the past, and since the actual practical good it has achieved has been made apparent, its growth will increase with still greater rapidity in the future. The member ship of one Grange recently orgatlized in New Hampshire, represents $1,000-, 000 capital; in other parts of the country are scores of Oranges which represent from one quarter to three fourths of a million of the staunchest kind of capital virgin soil. In point of fact no class of business men. except it may be the banks, which can roll up a stupendous aggregate of securities and nominal values, have so large an amount ot real wealth as the farmers! Their vast resources are now pledged, through the Grange .organization, to the breaking up of rings, destroying monopolies, crushing corruptions and reforming the many abuses under which all the productive classes have hitherto suffered. Cray's property on Front and Lyon streets, was blrmn down. A portion of a plank fence opposite the City Mills was made to lean towards the ground..
