Hillxboro to Portland, where he
filled a pulpit for some time and

those days the doctor recalls that

sembled Venetian water ways,
and a gondola would hare been
more practical that a vehicle.
Since leaving Hillslioro, Dr. Lind
say has been North to Nome, and
while in that town during the gold
rush, was handed his mail by .
V. Boacow. Millsboro's clothier.
Bosrow was Nome's first real
postmaster.
From 190S to 1920 the doctor
practiced osteopathy In Portland,
and was prominent in fraternal
circles, being a member of the
Shrine and K. of P. and other orders.
Rev. Jos. Waldrop. another
I Baptist expounder, w ill be recall
ed to the memories of Hillsboro
people, as he orrupied the pulpit
two years prior to Dr. Lindsay's
incumbency. aldrop was bap
tised by Dr. Lindsay and became
one of the forceful pulpiteers of
I the Northwest, he and Dr. Lind
say making a team noted for their
i powers of oratory and persuasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Lindsav have
been living in California for two
years, going there for the benefit
of Mrs. Lindsay s health. Ther
will visit in Portland and Hillsbo
ro and remain North until late in
A it rust, when they will return to
Fullerton, Cal., where their adopt
ed daughter is a student in high
I school. -
Dr. Lindsay's promised visit to
Hillsboro will remind old-time
residents of the' time when he
held sway in the Baptist church ;
when teams stuck in the mud on
Main street, and when Dr. C. B.
Brown, his son-in-law, played
marbles with boys who are now
prominent as business men.

A PAUL REVERE RIDE
The ride that Hillsboro firemen
and those accompanying in ma
chines last week, made Paul Re-
vrre's ride look like "SO cents." A
call came in at S :40 a. m. Friday
morning from Beaverton, asking
for help, as it was feared the lit
tle town would be swept off the
map by fire. Walt Tews and a
few firemen answered the call and
others joined them later in ma
chines. The fire truck made Bea
verton in a little over IS minutes.
but when they arrived the fire was
under control. W. H. Boyd s ac
cessory building and stock was
burned, entailing a total loss, with
some insurance. Boyd's loss is es
timated at about fS.100. The
building just east of Boyd's was
practically destroyed with the loss
fixed at 1,000. It was occupied
I by Mr. Wenstrom as a real estate
office, and was owned by the Bea
verton Bank.
Beaverton was very grateful
for the proffered help, even if it
was not used.
Even Mayor Shute was in at the
finish and several Hillsboro men
went down sockless, dressing in a
hurry. Triad Reynolds made the
trio and was in such a hurry that
he operated his clutch and brakes
barefooted.
