Otto Brose is now coming
west from St. Marys, this side of
Beaverton, with his road crew on
the Pacific Highway. Teams are
scarce, but he has succeeded in
getting a considerable force at
work grading. A big fill will yet
have to go in at the Rock Creek
bridge, just as soon as Ray Rea
soner gets thro with his contract.
Nothing definite is yet stated as
to wnetner or not the highway
commission will start work on
the hard surface this season.
Robert Thompson, of Cedar
Mill, was in town Monday. He
and his wife visited the State
Grange at Salem last week, and
Eobert says the session was re
plete with interest. The Grange
were extended the courtesis of
the Hall of Representatives in
which to hold their sessions, and
Robert says that it made a fellow
feel like a legislator. Mr. Thomp
son is an enthusiastic Granger
and has devoted much time to
the organization since it was es
tablished. The railroads are now taking
nothing less than 10 cents on a
passenger fare, and it is a dim
to Oak Park, a dime to Newton,
and a dime from up town to East
Sixth South, or to Tenth, and
there will be many walkers from
now on. The water brigade to
Oak Park and other swimming
points on the O. J5. will hereaf
