John Pouieroy, of Portland,
sues his wife, Theresa, who lives
here, for divorce. They were
married in 19 hi, and have an in
fant daughter. The husband al
leges the wife deserted him in
the latter part of 1917, and came
to Hillsboro to reside with her
mother, taking the child with her.
He also says that she unjustly
caused his indictment for non
support, on two different occa
sions. He says he has always
provided for the wife and child,
mid he now asks the Court to
give him the care and custody of
the child as well as a decree of
separation.

COMES THE RUB
After July 1, 1918, any person
in any non-producing employ
ment will be subject to hearing
by the local war boards. And if
findings show thai the occupa
tion is really non-productive then
men in either of Class 1, 2, 3 or 4
may be taken by selective draft.
The occupations deemed non
productive are waiters, either in
dispensing food or drink or re
freshments ; elevator operators,
doormen, footmen, clerks in
stores, porters around hotels,
salesmen, workers around office
buildings, games, sports, and
many other like lines. One local
board knowing of facts may noti
fy another board, and then the
offender will be brought to the
board for a hearing.

Last Friday evening, the Hel
vetia School gave a patriotic pro
gram which consisted of drills,
dialogues and songs. Elmer E.
Guerber, accompanied by his sis
ter, Adele, rendered a mandolin
selection. Eighth Grade diplo
mas were awarded Adelheid
Nussbaunier and Earl Reichen.
The entertainment was enjoyed
by all, and was arranged by Mrs.
M. Mays, teacher, assisted by
Miss Ella Berger. After the pro
gram refreshments were sold, the
proceeds going to the purchase
