Sturm Sewer Contractors Expected to
Rush Affairs
Mason & Coombs, under the di
rection of one of the Mason
Brothers, started work with a
crew of men, Monday morning,
on the sanitary sewer, beginning
excavation on First Street, be
tween Lincoln and Main. Mayor
H. T. Bagley was at hand at 7
o'clock, and excavated the first
shovel load out of Hillsboro's new
sewer system.
Men were lined all along the
block, and each one took a stipu
lated space, which was divided
from the next "take," as a
printer would say. by two or
three feet of a wall. This little
wall will probably be bored when
the level is made, and it will
save a great deal of digging.

Sewer pipe is being strewn all
around the town, and the storm
sewer contractors are expected

On the Fourth, a good old-fash
ioned picnic was enjoyed at the
Hazel Ranch, owned by Geo.
Vedder and Gus. Krogh, and the
day was spent in exercises,
games, partaking of good thines
from the table, etc. Miss Stella
Goodin christened the ranch and
broke a bottle of milk at the big
flagpole, those present were:
