Every year, as our popula tion increases, we shall more and more feel the need of a city park. Who will take hold of this matter, and give us something to hope for? Calvin Hailey, Blooming's post master, and who is in his 74th year, has juBt relurned from no extended trip to his hoyhocd home in Penn sylvania, on hia trip visited friends in California and Nehrsska. The Forest Grove Times says that Mr. Bailey found many chumps where he was wont lo dig for fish worms back in old Pennsylvania. T. II Adsms received a letter this week from W. H. Sheriff Connell has been busily engaged in sending out notices to all who paid none of their tax last spring, tbe list embracing several hundred. Blas er landed one the list of the week. Notwithstanding Ibis is a poor year for prunes it is said that the peach crop in and around Hills boro is larger this year than ever. They are of fine quality, and are now ripening. Mr. Hunteman, of southeast of Hillslioro, has a fine lot in his orchard this year, and trees are ladeu everywhere. Frank G. Mitchell, a Hil'sboro favorite, and for several years iut crested with Wilson Brock in the drug hueineps at Pendleton, is now conducting a like business at Ath ens, I'matilla county, owned by tbe firm of which he is a meiubar. Miss Kirkwood. who has had chirge of Hoyt's Millinery depart ment, this teiuon, is taking her Summer vacation, and Miss Meta Wallace will have charge of the de partment during her absence.
