M INTERNMENT IS HINTED Government May Establish Camp Vuere Members of Irish "Army" Will Be Isolated After Arrest. . DUBLIN, Nov. 27. Arthur Griffith; head of the Sinn Fein, and E. J. Du gan, Sinn Fein member of parliament, have been taken to Mount Joy prison. It has not been decided whether they will be among those selected for the Ballykinlar internment camp. Intern ment there, according to the author ities, would be a "concession," as heretofore such prisoners have been held merely as "common criminals." A part of the military returning from an inquiry outside Fermoy was ambushed three miles from that'town last evening and two soldiers ' killed and three wounded. There are no football matches scheduled .for tomorrow, such as last Sunday, which, the officials claim, served as a "cover" for the operations of the "murder gang." Unusual activity was displayed by the crown forces today and the thorough searching of premises down town indicated that the authorities were taking all precautions. - "What is described as the first of many internment camps for the Irish republican army, it is authoritatively stated, will be brought into operation shortly. It is situated at Ballykinlar, in rundrumbay, county Down, and is capable of accommodating 1000 prisoners. It is asserted prisoners will be liable to be interned without trial and that membership in the Irish re publican army will be sufficient rea son for internment. Other camps are in course of preparation. Further raids occurred in Dublin today. It is reported that the round up the last seven days has resulted In 2-00 arrests. PLOTS' LP AD TO BARRICADES Sinn Fein Conspiracy to Bomb Gov ernment Buildings Alleged. LONDON", Nov. 27. (By the Asso ciated Press.) The seizure during raids in Ireland of Sinn Fein docu ments alleged to give details of a conspiracy for damaging buildings in England was said today in police cir cles to be the cause of the erection of the formidable barricades which have been put at the entrances of Downing street and King Charles street. Police stated that numerous acts of terrorism were being planned. Ac cording to published reports, members of the government have received threatening letters, but the officials are maintaining silence. In one case, according to the po lice, motor cars were to have been employed to transport bombers to carry out the destruction of the gov ernment buildings. After the erection last night of barriers eight feet high to exclude the public from Downing street, the houses of parliament were closed to the public today. This action followed the detention of a strange man in the lobby of the house of commons yesterday. Al though no official statement has been issued, the Evening Standard says it has reason to believe the action has an important bearing on sinister Sinn Fein activities in this country. Sir Edward Carson, Ulster unionist leader, has declined an invitation from the committee of 100 in the United States which is giving hear ings on conditions in Ireland, asking him to attend sessions of the commit tee's commisison of seven in Wash ington. STORES IX CORK ARE BOMBED Property Valued at $250,000 Is Destroyed' by Flames. CORK, Nov. 27. The drapery stores in St. Patrick's street here were com pletely destroyed by fire today, fol lowing a number of bomb explosions. The damage is estimated at $250,000. Reports alleged that "black and tans" at the point of revolvers pre vented the fire fighters' operations and later ordered all the volunteer helpers away from the scene. In Tipperary the Sinn Fein club , rooms were burned. Several other buildings were badly damaged. The residents were startled by frequent explosions, smashing of glass and occasional shots during the early hours of the morning. ERIX VISITORS GET PASSPORTS V. S. Some members of the special committee appointed to visit Ireland and Eng land in connection with the investi gation of the Irish question by the commission of the committee of one hundred on the Irish' question have applied for passports. LIMERICK, Nov. 27 Pistol shots were fired into the carriage of Brigadier-General Cameron, commander of troops here, by civilians today as the carriage was leaving the bar racks. The general, however, was not in the carriage. ' The driver escaped injury and the men who fired the shots fled. QUAKES RUIN BUILDINGS Pontevedra District of Spain Cen - ter of Destructive Shocks. MADRID, Nov. 27. Serious earth quake chocks have caused extensive damage in northwestern Spain, cen tering in the Pontevedra district. In the cities of Corunna, Lugo, Vigo and Ferrol buildings were shat tered. Pupils of a girls' school in Ponte vedra became panic stricken and jumped from the windows of a dormi tory, a number being Injured. Forty-Xiner Dies. SAN BERNARDINO, Cal.. Nov. 27. Sidney P. Waits, one of the few re maining 49ers of California and for many years widely known newspaper man and public official, died here today at the age of 81 years. When Mr.' Garretson arrived in At, lantic City he investigated conditions relative to preparations for the 1921 session and found that the hotels were refusing to recede from their $12 a day rates and also issued a ukase to the effect that Shrine bands would not be allowed to parade, or play in their lobbies. 1 After learning of this condition ol affairs Mr. Garretson took a ballot in the various Shrines of the country and the result was that Atlantic City was voted down and Savannah got the next session.
