The bust of the pioneer, F. X. Matthieu, done by Roswell Dosch, is to be erect ed soon and the funds for the lecture will go for that purpose. The bust was given to the Oregon Historical society by the sculptor. . A series of five parties is announced by the Scottish Rite for the winter I programme of festivities, ine evenio will include both dancing and cards. The Scottish Rite series of entertain ments always is anticipated eagerly by members. The parties will be given at the cathedral. The first af fair will be an event of December 9. Following are the dates of the 1921 parties: January 6, February 10, March 10 and April 7. The Women's guild of St. Stephens Pro-Cathedral will hold their annual Christmas sale on December 2 at the assembly hall of the Portland hotel. Mrs. Herbert Holman and Mrs. I S. Franck will be in charge of the "Dinahs" and other well-made dolls for which the guild is noted. Mrs. Walter' T. Sumner and Mrs. W. T. Muir are busy preparing for a display of things for the kiddies, in cluding doll-house furniture. There will be two tables of articles of needlework and knitting, presided over by Mrs. R. T. T. Hicks. Mrs. H. E. Blossom, Mrs. Butcher and Mrs. James Dezendorf. Mrs. Walter Nash will have aprons of many new designs. The candy table will be in charge of Miss Hazel Page, Miss Louise Lin thicum and Mrs. Harold Dekum GilL There will be good things to eat at the "pantry table," managed by Mrs. H. B. McCabe. Mrs. IS. T. C. Stevens and Mrs. J. C. Robinson will be in charge of the tea room. There will be dancing in Vhe eve ning. The sale opens at 10 A. M. An event of interest to friends of the families throughout Oregon and Washington was the marriage of Miss Olive Ann Risley and John DeWitt Gilbert Friday evening at 8:30 o'clock at the bride's home, Risley station, on the River road. Miss Risley is the second daughter of Mrs. Risley and the late Charles W. Risley. Mr. Gilbert is the only son of Chaplain and Mrs. William S. Gilbert of As toria. The marriage unites two Ore gon pioneer famiilies of '49 and '53, and is the result of a college romance, both young people being graduates of the University of Oregon. Miss Risley, a charming young woman and much beloved by her as sociates, has for the last two years beer, a teacher in the English depart ment of the Milwaukie high school. She is president of the Delta Delta Delta alliance of this city. Mr. Gil bert spent two years with the Amer ican army overseas, where, after the armistice, he studied in the Sorbonne and later at the Universite de Gre noble. After his discharge in New York he took graduate work in the Pulitzer school of journalism at Co lumbia university. He is now news editor of the Astoria Evening Budget. The ceremony took place in the Risley home, which was attractively decorated in white chrysanthemums and autumn greens. The Presbyte rian service was read by the bride groom's father. Dr. Gilbert, and the bride was given in marriage by the bride's brother, Jacob S. Risley. Mrs Robert C. Bradshaw of The Dalles attended her sister as matron of honor and Miss Margery Gilbert, sis ter of the bridegroom, afe maid of honor. Joseph C. Hedges, a Phi Gamma Delta fraternity brother of Mr. Gilbert, acted as best man. The Tri-Delta sorority sisteTS of the bride assisted in. the dining-room. The bride wore a simple gown of ivory satin embroidered with pearls. The matron of honor was lovely in a gown of salmon pink satin trimmed with crystal beads. The maid of honor was gowned in jade green georgette overcloth of silver with trimmings of silver lace. After a short honeymoon spent at Cannon beach the young couple will make their home in Astoria. Readings by Ethelwynne Kelly were given and Judge Stevens gave a talk on Shakespeare. Messrs. Butler. Davis and Evans, civil war veterans, gave brief and interesting talks. Franck was hostess on Tuesday and again on Wednesday, when she entertained groups of friends at bridge teas.
