Football games, holiday dancea and actlvltlea that will be plannea to welcome the college set home for a few days will claim much ot socletya attention this week. One of the events of Interest will be a lecture that will have the stamp of society's sincere approval. The lec ture by Aran Dosch-Fleurot will be riven In the First Presbyterian church house on Friday, November 26, when the noted writer and lecturer will peak on "Russia and the ' Bolahe--iki." The money raised will go toward casting a bronze statue of V. X. Matthleu, according to a design by the late Roswell Doech. During the past week on of the most notable events was the receotlon given by Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Wat- aon to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. It was the kind of re ception society should have more of for it brought together so many old inenas. it was tne most delightful, old-fashioned, new-fabhioned, always charming society gathering. Lovely flowers decorated every table, every nock and corner and turn of the stair-1 way. Roses and chrysanthemums vied for honors, and they all were admir ably placed. The decorations this season seem to have taken on an added gaiety of coloring to match, the gaiety that so ciety is showing In entertaining with all the pre-war smartness. Piobably no table decoration of flowers has been more attractive than that employed by Mrs. Lee Hoffman when she gave a recent tea. Golden yellow chrysanthemums and deep bronze of smaller size were used most effectively. The harvest home party of the Ir vlngton club next Friday night at the clubhouse will afford an occasion for unique decorating and costuming. Mrs. W. J. Hofmanh will be hostess. A committee of members will assist. It will not be a mask affair, but will be an opportunity for some original costuming. At Mrs. J. Sherman O'Gorman's mart tea on Thursday there was a good attendance. The hostess, lovely In a cream lace gown with Just a tcuch of turquoise blue, received in the drawing room, and as a back ground there was a basket of pink roses that completed a most charming picture. In the dining room the table dtcoratlon Included a centerpiece basket of the autumn fruits, luscious grppes, persimmons, apples, oranges. At the corners of the table were silver candlesticks, with bright tapers cast ing a mellow light over the table. Prominent maids and matrons assisted In the receiving party and in serving. Quite the ntt charming ot these waa Patricia O'Gorman, daughter of the hostess, who, although but a very youthful assistant, proved that she possessed true social charm and hos pitality. Miss Virginia McDonough. niece of the uostess, was pretty in a biouse of emerald green, beaded and worn with black suit and velvet .hat. Chf recently went abroad but has re turned a most enthusiastic and loyal American, who tells interestingly of things : in Europe as found by the tourist of today. The Portland Heights club's parties are proving more popular this year than ever before. The music has been good and the suppers, always at 11 o'clock, are attractive. A. Morrison. officiating. The couple will be at home after December 15 at their home on the Columbia above Vancouver. Mrs. C E. Runyon. Mrs. Georg IJ Baker and Mrs. O. M. Clark are head ing a committee of capable workers who are making an eloquent appeal for help for the Waverley Baby home. Extra money is needed to carry on the regular expenses, pay the back bills and pay also for nurses salaries. Mrs. Ira F. Powers baa taken the chairmanship of the flying squadron and she and her workers predict that their call for donations toward the needed $10,000 cannot meet with refusal. The horse show last week was a great success and each night wlt rerted many box parties with dinners before and some Jolly supper dancea after the show. Multnomah club will give a formal ball on December S in the clubhouse. Bazaars and benefit entertainments wii be numerous. Among the leading Vazaars will be those ot the First Ccr.gregational. St. Stephen's pro cathedral, and Trinity Episcopal churches with dates announced for next week, Numerous box and line parties were arranged for the Amato and Xitty Beal concert of Wednesday night. Mrs. J. B. Montgomery enter tained a party' of six and Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Coffey were hosts for a box party. Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Dickson entertained with a dinner at Alexandra court, and later took their guests to the concert. The 14th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Watson was the occasion for a delightful recep tion last Wednesday night, at which nearly 200 guests were present. The Watsons have a host of friends in the city and lovely flowers and other gifts were sent in honor of the occasion The rooms were decked With, many autumnal blooms, rich. Hirsch. Mrs. J. B. Montgomery and Mrs. Frank M. Warren. Later Mrs. John S. Parker, Mrs. Martin Winch. Mrs. David Robertson and Mrs. James Laidlaw presided. Assisting about the rooms were Mrs. A. L. Maxwell, Mrs. Marion F. Dolph. Mrs. Daniel A. Bhlndler, Mrs. William H. Linea and Mrs. William H. Skene. Mra. Watson was lovely in a black beaded gown and ahe carried delicate pink rose buds arranged In arm bouquet. The . marriage of Miss Delphlne Rosenfeld and Robert Koshland will be a brilliant event of December 8. The ceremony will .be solemnized in Temple Beth Israel and will be fol lowed by a dinner for 160 at - thi Benson hotel.
