The piece is full of scenes of love, emotion, comedy, as well as keen thrusts at the foibles of today. "The Making: Over of Mrs. Matt" was writ ten by James Forbes, the author of "The Chorus Lady." and other sue- The Shuberts. in advertising- "The Passing Show of 1915," hit upon a trite but truculent bit of old wisdom, it Is: "He who lives without folly is not so wise as he thinks." Therein lies the keynote to the famous Winter Garden production which Portland Is to have jupt as New York had it. The production, carrying; 145 persona and comingT on a, special train, opens May 29, with three matinees during th week. Wednesday. Friday and Sat urday. The Passing Shows are annual institutions; the Pacific Coast gets them as soon as New York finishes with them, and sometimes before. They "go after" people and tfctngs and are usually as bright a night as comes to a Western theater-goer In a long year. " Then there's one called "The Primrose Way." which is more to be listened to than, spoken of. Friday and Saturday. - All this at the Heilig in the next two weeks; following which there will be Umily Stevens in a soul-stirring thing, "The TTnehastenetl Woman." And. in the near future, a show for women only will be at the Heilig.' It is a lecture moving picture on "Twilight Sleep." This latest comedy hit. "Cock o" the Walk," which opens tomorrow night, was written especially for Mr. Skinner by Henry Arthur Jones, the foremost Knglish playwright of the day. In this play Mr. Skinner impersonates An thony Bellchamber. an old school Thespian, Irrepressible, irresponsible. bibulous, but always genial and lova ble in short, another of those charm ing rascals that Mr. Skinner likes to play and that he plays so well. Bell--hsmber isn't exactly a companion por trait to Hadji, the begger (in "Kis met") he is such a different kind of rogue but Mr. Skinner makes him Just as interesting and true to life. And the play, which pictures conditions of the London stage at the present day. is, from all accounts, full of humorous situations and the book shows it to have laughter-provoking satire and witty dialogue. In "The Making Over of Mrs. Matt." opening Thursday, May Robson will give her inimitable portrayal of one of the lower ten million trying to climb In among the upper-tendom. Of a theme of this nature, when one knows Miss Robson, one may expect much that 1.4 hilariously funny, frankly humorous and highly essential.- Miss Robson has a clever company supporting ' her and will, of course, bring an entire and complete production, as well as beauti ful gnwnings and extensive creations John T. Murray and Marllynn Miller have the Btellar stunts to do. Any one of the group could star and head a single production, but a Passing Show must possess quantity as well as qual ity. Miss Miller, the only one whose fame is new to the West, Is a Londoner, come through the exigencies of the great war. The Shuberts say her dancas are "dreams." Her pictures show her possessed of contagious beauty and apparently, she Is most graceful. Los Angeles and tJan Francisco have stamped the show O. K.
