Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker, who have been located in a cottage at Nye Beach during the Summer, left Monday for their home In Forest Grove. Fred Thielsen. of Salem, has Joined his family at Agate Beach and will enjoy a vacation there. Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Powers, of Salem, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Roberts at Agate Beach. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Watkins and daughter, Elizabeth, left Wednesday for Forest Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Tooze, Jr., and Bon. Walter III, of Dallas, returned to their Polk County home the first of the week by automobile after a 10 days' eojourn at Nye Beach as residents of Cherry City. Robert W. Langley, of Portland, was Included among the week's departures from this resort. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keeney and son, of Eugene, are enjoying an outing at Nye Beach, at the Nicolai. Mrs. o. L. Palmer and children, of Athena, are established in the Casa Bonita cottage at Nye Beach for an outing. Joel Green, of Carthage, 111., is among the out-of-the-state visitors who are enjoying the variety of Newport's at tractions. Mrs. R. C. Kerrigan and daughter, of Eugene, are listed among the recent registrations at the Nicolai. Mrs. Thomas Callahan. Mrs. Lucy Francisco and Mrs. Martha Burnett, of Corvallis, raeched Nye Beach this week and are included among the residents of Cherry City. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Powell are among the Portlanders at Nye Beach, arriving Tuesday. Miss Belle McArthur, of Paola. Kan., is included among the Middle Western sojourners in Newport. Mrs. E. O. Potter and daughter. Miss Pauline Potter, of Eugene, are at the Damon, Nye Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Woodrich and daughters. Ruth, Nellie and Thella, of Junction City, are located in one of the Rose City teuthouses at the beach for an indefinite stay. Mrs. Lettie Dorcas and daughter. ofa 6alem. reached the beach Wednesday and are among the tenters at Cozy Camp. Mrs. H. W. Ray and two daughters, of Portland, who have been sojourning at Nye Beach, left Friday for their home. The Misses Ray will attend Portland Academy this year. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. BAYOCE.W RiEOtAlXS FESTIVE Plans Made to Keep Fun Going; Dur ing Part of September. BAYOCEAN. Or., Sept. 4. (Special.) Many and merry have been the eociai vents during: the past week. Not withstanding the fact that schools will coon open and that many vacationists are preparing1 to return to their homes in the cities, the Summer activity is far from over. The hotel will remain open for a few days after Labor Day, while the Natatorium and the bunga lows probably will close the 15th. Last Sunday at the hotel the patrons and their friends were entertained at an Informal musicale. Carl O. Shagren, who is summering with friends here, spent a few days with relatives In Tillamook. Albert Biggs, of Garibaldi, was a visitor during the week. James O'Donnell and E. J. "Wood made an excursion trip to Tillamook and way points on the gasoline schoon er Dorothy May Tuesday. H. L. Chester cottage at Seaside was the scene of a jolly week end party when Mrs. ti. R. Cliff and daughter Hilda dispensed hospitality to a few friends. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Magill, Miss Irene Mosher, Carl Taylor and Harry Divilbiss. R O CK AWAY GROWS IX FAVOR Plans Made for Increase of Festivi ties Next Season, ROCKAWAY, Or., Sept. 4. (Spe cial.) This resort has enjoyed one of the most successful years of its ex istence. More people have been enter tained and more publicity derived than from any previous Summer. The popu larity Is steadily increasing, and it will soon be that Rockaway will vie with the other long established re sorts of the Oregon coast. The season here is practically closed. The many people who come here during Septem ber for brief periods are generally those who own their own cottages, and the tent and camp grounds are nearly deserted. Many plans are being pre pared for the advancement of this dis trict for next year. Many cottages will be erected next Spring. Mr. and Mrs. N. Nelson, of Emmett, Idaho, are guests at the Summer quar ters of the latter's mother, Mrs. W. E. Irvin, for a few weeks. Domiciled for a week in Camp Swas tika were the Misseslrene and Gladys Brunes and Lily and Violet Boons, . of Portland. Mrs. Ada Anderson entertained dur ing the week Miss Sophia Hinkle, of Portland. Clifford and Marie, have reVurned to Portland after a vacation at Dew- drop Inn. BAR VIEW HAS CLAM BAKE Visitors of Otlier Beaches Swell Crowd to Big Proportions. BAR VIEW, Or., Sept. 4. (Special.) Bar View was the scene of one of the largest clam bakes ever staged in this vicinity last Saturday. Dr. Wise, of the Bar View Hotel, was host, and visitors flocked In from all the adajcent beaches and many from Portland. The tent city is still well populated, and it will per haps be another month before the sea son formally closes at this resort. Surf bathing is quite popular, and with the change in the beach line recently made, the bathers have a most enjoyable time. Miss Maria Mitten, of Anible. Mis souri, is a guest at the camp of Mrs. Joplin. P. T. Marcher and wife, of Bay City, are In a camp here for the season. Harry Wright, operator for the Port land Fire Department, accompanied by his family, is quartered here at the White Camp. A long season of lovely weather and all manner of beach activities is drawing to a close at Porth rseacn. Window boxes are disappearing and shutters are appearing, and those who want only a quiet month are remaining.
