Smith are enjoying a few weeks' vacation. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Godel. recently arrived in Seaview and are occupying a cottage on the ridge for a brief stay Mrs. Charles Barenstecher and Miss Viola Barenstecher, who have been guests of Mrs. T. J. Seufert and family, have returned to Portland. After a delightful visit of four months In Seaview. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Weaver returned to Portland. Miss Mattle Humason, who has been attending the Summer session at Ore gon Agricultural College. Joined her parents last week to pass the balance of the Summer here. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Waters Johns ton, of Seattle, are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Johnston at Knglewood cottage for a fortnight and later will visit Mrs. J. M. Crook in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Crook and daughter. Miss Haael. arrived yester day to Join the party and will return with the Harold Johnsons. Frederick Johnston will come down today to visit his family. Captain Johnston has been a house guest of Mrs. H. A. Dunbar and Dr. and Mrs. Roberts have also been their guests during the week. The Misses Holman are visiting their brother, F. V. Holman. at Holman Sta tion. A merry gathering of young folk under the chaperonage of Mrs. V. H. Wolfe went to Long Beach Tuesday evening for a swim, later attending the dance at the skating rink. Mr. Adams came down the middle of the week for a short visit with his family. The artistic Allen cottage, which is surrounded by a riotous old-fashioned garden. Is now housing the owners. Goode. of Forest Grove, arrived this week and are camped near Smith's Lake. Mrs. L. M. Worrell and daughter arrived this week anl are at the White camp. Mr and Mrs. Chester Stuart are vis iting Mr. and Mrs. W. Schulmerlck at their Summer camp. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Brooks enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Henry McKlnnon, Frank Brickel and Charles Miller, all of Portland, Tuesday night at White camp. A Dutch lunch was served in the evening. Dr. Elta and Professor Schnauffer. Portland, arrived Friday. They are of at White camp. Sergeant L. A. Harms. Captain C. Tnskeep and Sergeant Stahl. of the Portland police, left with their fam ilies after a two weeks' stay. Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Kelsey and fam ily, of Carlton, and Miss Orma Beckley are camping in the orchard. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Johnson are at White camp. S. S. Barnes, of McMtnnville, is camping in the orchard. Mrs. Charles Nightingale. Mrs. Fred Wolf and Mrs. John Wolf, of Portland, arrived this week. The extreme low tides last week tempted the vacationists out in the early morning to gather clams and crabs. There is an abundance of both and the beach Is lined every morning with early risers armed with shovels and rakes and various other tools. Fishing from the rocks Is another form of amusement which has been popular. The fishermen are Invariably rewarded with large strings of kelp, porgles and perch. The crew from the UTe sav ing station went out over the bar last Fridav and caught 27 ling cod, weigh ing from 10 to 15 pounds each. E. S. Reynolds. The Oregonlan's car toonist, is passing his vacation at Bar View. He'is at the Bar View hotel. Albert Lundstrom. of the Marshall Wells Company. Is visiting at Hesita tion camp for two weeks. 1. T. MOUNTAIN TRIP BEACH ASSET Ecola Visitors Climb Xeuli-Kaunte Among Other Pleasures. ECOLA, Cannon Beach, Or., Aug. 1. (Special.) Days without a cloud, sea-breezes whipping from the north, sunsets of flame and gold, and even ings wh'en the beams of the setting moon floods the Western waters with streams of rippling silver, has been the combination that has made the past week an ideal one here. The tides of the past, week have not been the best for clams and crabs, but the coming week will bring the condi tions proper for plentiful supplies of sea foods. The trail across Neah-Kah-Nie Moun tain is being improved. The Neah-Kah-Nle-Cannon Beach trip has never been as popular as this year. The growing fame of the scenery along the way probably accounts for the unpre cedented numbers that dally tramp the "beach of thousand wonders" and cross the Neah-Kah-Nie the highest coast mountain from San Francisco to Puget Sound. , i Wednesday and Saturday evenings the younger set of Upper Cannon Beach gathered at Elk Creek as the guests of D. Taking advantage of the unusually low Summer tides, scores of people have been journeying to the caves, many of them succeeding in gaining entrance to the outer or fifth cave, which is extremely difficult of access.
