Professor Knowlea purchased from W. O Banks an eight-acre bearing orchard In the Belmont diatrlct. The former sale was made through tha agency of O. T. Edwards Company, and tha latter by the Hood River District Land Company. Both edueatora have been Impresaed with tha Valley aa a per manent home location and will bring their families here. Plana have been completed and work is to ba rushed on a five-story, hotel building to be built on the northeast corner of Twelfth and Washington street by Mrs. E. W. D. Cramer and H. W. Fries at a cost of $150,000. The plans have been drawn by Lionel reane. architect, who will also have charge of the construction work. Tha building will be ona of the most rdod ern in tha city. The plans call for a structure of concrete and brick, thoroughly fire proof and fitted with the latest of ho tel accommodations, including baths for nearly every room, electric lights, hot and cold water and good elevator service. It la the Intention to have the work flnlahed by tha middle of November. The building will cover 100 by 110 feet. The exterior will be In the neo greclan style of architecture with fancy trimmings of brick, stone and concrete. The exterior will be of cream-colored preased brick. There will be 1J4 roome In the hotel, each with outside windows. Ona of the attractive features will be the lobby and entrance which will be finished in onyx. This will be 16 feet wide and 65 feet long and on both side will have plate-glass windows looking into storerooms. Two elevators will run up from the rear of the lobby. Kendall ia building a 10-rpom buniralow on East Fourteenth street between Knott and Stanton on a quarter block which he purchased some time ago. The bungalow, which will occupy a considerable portion of the quarter, will cost S500. TheTKey Engipeerlng & Construction Company has the general contract. C. C. Murton, a real estate dealer, is building a home on East Twelfth street between Knott and Stanton streets. John stout has the contract at 2800. Judge Hartman, formerly a resident of Pendleton, but now of Portland, Is erecting a 16000 home- on Hancock street near Edst Twenty-second. It is nearlng completion. Dr. William O.
