Just how much of the Woodstock territory and sur roundings will be Included Is for th engineers to decide, but In th Mount Scott district, th sewer problem Is be coming Insistent. Along th Foster road north and south to th city limits there Is already a larg population, estimated at between 10.000 and 11. 00. Settlement la particularly heavy near the Foster road. Ex-City Engineer Morris prepared th plana for th Sullivan Gulch sewer district, which embraces all Roe City Park. Canter - Addition. Mont villa. North Mount Tabor and East Mount Tabor, running up to Tabor Height. The main conduit will b constructed from the Willamette RWer to East Thirty-ninth street, whenc a large branch will be built through a tunnel to th southwest oornsr of Laurelhurst, and thenc through Center Addition and North Albtna to East Eighty-second street. A branch Is provided for the Sandy Road. Th conduit In Sulli van's Oulch will carry th combined sewage for th several sections nd will be a tub probably mor than 1 eet In diameter. Rights of way have ben secured for the main conduit. Al though the plana for this sewer sys tem, on of th most Important pro jected, war prepared many months ago. no contracts for any part have so far been let. Construction of the main eondult throogh Kulllvan's Oulch and th tunnel under Laurelhurat will re quire a long time. Th branch In Sandy Road will b built In advanc of th eondult In Snl Irvan. Ouloh. so that th paring of th atreet may not b delayed. Es-Clty Engineer Morris told th people of MoDtavllla last Winter that th cost of th sewer would probably exceed 11.000.000 and that It would take mor than a year to construct th sy stem To provide swag facilities for th Peninsula la a difficult problem, be cause of th character and extent of the territory to be covered. The Pen insula territory extends to th North Bank Railroad cut and from the Wil lamette River to Columbia boulevard. Borne portions of the district like Ver non. Woodiawn. Walnut Park. Pied mont and North Alblna have grown o rapidly that they need sewers Im peratively. The great manufacturing ' plants In the Columbia Slough district, on Columbia boulevard, have brought several thousands of operatives who live In Kenton. Woodiawn. Peninsula, fnlvsrslty Park and Portsmouth. At Kenton alone, wher two years ago ther waa no settlement, ar mor than 2000 persona The problem la to get an outlet for a general sewer system for the Peninsula, ther being a dif ference of opinion wher th outlet should be located. Th territory will probably b di vided Into three sewer districts, cover ing ths Woodiawn. Vernon. Piedmont territory. Central or North Alblna to Columbia boulevard, with th south eld bordering on th Willamette River. Plans hav been drawn providing for an outlet to Oregon flough. an arm of th Columbia River, and It has been suggested that a conduit be built along Columbia boulevard to th Willamette River. Whatever outlet le selected, the cost will be heavy, probably aa average of 00 a lot. COCRTIIOCSE TO BE ALTERED $10,000 to Be Expended on Oregon City Public Building-. Plans hav been finished by Archi tect John G. Wilson for th addition of a SO by tS-foot wing and th making of thr altsratlone on th Oregon City courthouse. . Th cost will be about 1:0.000. New Garage Is Started. Work has been commenced on a eon crate garage at the southeast corner of Forty-ninth street and Hawthorne avenue to cost $5000. Wilson Estate Will Expend $5,0-00 for Xew Gorham-Revere Company Home on Fifth Street. A contract has been let to J. S. Win ter A Co.. for the erection of a thor oughly modern four-story warehouse building on Fifth street between Burn Side and Couoh. The structure will cost 125,000, Is to be owned by th Wilson estate and occupied by the Gor-ham-Revere Rubber Company, which haa secured a long lease on all four floors. The building will b of brick and concrete.. SO by 100 feet In else, and provided with all the latest of ware house conveniences. Large freight ele vators will be In both ends of th build ing. Modern offices will b fitted up on the ground floor. However, th transforma tion of th district named by Rev. Ehrgott Is being effected as rapidly as Is possible. Those who have been fol lowing the situation say the residence district Is constantly moving back from the Willamette into what hereto fore has been called th. suburbs. Only last week th Council took steps to Improve East Eighty-first street at Montavllla and plans ar under way on Villa avenue, which Is an extension of East Ollsan street, for Improve ments to cost about MO.000. The city limits extend about ten blocks further eastward, and buildings have already overleaped that line. Terrace Park Is rapidly filling up with dwellings, and th new Altamead Addition on the Baae Una road is finding ready sale. More than 10,000 people now llv In ths Montavllla dlstrlot.
