Nothing could be more delightful than the bright, warm sun shine between abowera which have erred to pack the sand Into a good firm footing tor horse and man. The aunospbere la wonderfully cool and fresh and sort bathing under such con ditions Is absolutely of the best. This week-end Seaside waa visited by members of the "Hoo Hoo." who made themselres at home at Hotel Moore, where they banqueted and made merry to their heart's content. Large posters of im posing black cats decorate all the fences and ralllnga in Seaside, and . cleverly acted the part of advanre agents to their cause. Not only did the "Hoo Hoo" attract the Interest of Seaside dwellers, but a large dahlia fair, held at Seaside House, proved very successful. Seaalde House is well adapted by tts situation to fairs of any kind. The large campus in front of the buildings waa tilled with beautiful as ters, dalalea and aweet peas, to say aothlng of the dahilaa which were ex ceptionally well developed. Mrs. Van Houton. who has a cottage near the hotel, won the first prise. The aoll In that particular section of the country Is excellent for raising flowers, and Mrs. Van Houton showa remarkable patience and skill with hers. Not only were her dahilaa the best, but she won the prize for the best aaaortroent of flowers. Her sweet peas were very beautiful. Among the attractions at Seaalde this week waa music furnished by Leber's Juvenile Orchestra. which spent three days at the Seaside Theater. Fo. though the rain has fallen since last Sunday, it has not dampened the spirits of any who are making Seaside their home this Summer. Miss Alice Mulford la the ruest or Miss Marie Vanell at her Hermora ' Park home. "Klnnle Klnnlc Lodge." Clifford Moore Is the guest of his parents at the Moore cottage for a few weeks. W. H. Lake has returned to Portland after visiting at the "Marian" cottage. Jean Dunbar Is spending- the Sum mer at Seaside with her mother Mr. and Mrs. Charlea Cleveland are at the Cleveland cottage for the re mainder of the season. airs- E. M. Xot a Drowning Has Occurred at Colombia Beach. COLUMBIA BEACH, Aug. SO. (Speo lal) Surf bathing has been most pop ular at Columbia Beach this season. At the correct stage of the tide there is an average of 150 bathers, and two or three dozen are always coming and going down the board walk. The beach is perfectly safe and Columbia Beach is rightly prond of Its record of not a single drowning. Frank Hornby and friends have made all the hikes and jaunts in this "nock of the woods." The Oregon Baptist Summer Assem bly had a large attendanoe and was successful from all standpoints. The programme was especially strong un der the direct supervision of Miss Mlllspaw and Rev. Mr. Parker. 0 Rev. J. Whltcomb Brougher of Loa Angeles was one of the principal speak ers at the Baptist convention. D. K. Ilef has completed and Is now occupying his new eight-room cottage near Fifth street. A. V. Beesley and family have been making things merry about their Sum mer camp for the past two weeka D. J. Russell has been a frequent visitor at the beach of late. Mrs. Walter Fortlner of Portland has been a guest of Mrs. Dolan. Professor L M. Walksr and family have left after a two months' stay at the beach. Mra S. L. Roberts and children have a moat attractive tent house. The tent olty at Columbia Beach is the most popular feature among all the Oregon beaches. The tents have been Oiled all season and a great many people could not get accommodations notwithstanding the fact that ttis capacity and equipment has been doubled over that of last season. BEACH SEASON IS AT HEIGHT Tennis Tourney at Breakers Inter ests Coast Visitors. NORTH BEACH. Wash., Aug. JO. (Special.) The season on the Washing ton coast is -now at its height. The ho tels are full of happy people glad to be away from the cares and worries of busi ness and the city. All along the beach Veen interest is displayed in the com ing tennis tournament soon to be held at the Breakers. Much Interest is als taken in the weekly practice at the life saving station near Ocean Park. eVarge crowds from all points on North Beach congregate to watch the maneuvers of the skilled crews who put out through the breakers in small boats and' courage ously display their nerve and training. Social life from Seaview to Ocean Park is very active Just at present. Pleasure parties are always In order and one of the most unusual of the season occurred at Tioga last Tuesday. It was a chil dren's party, given in honor of the birthday of little Miss Margaret Spenoer by her mother. Mra Arthur Spencer. Hibbard re cently gave a bonfire for her guest, Mr. N. M- Sloan. Mrs. Hibbard and Mrs. Sloan expect to return to Portland very soon. Mrs. T.
