Daly reports the sale of 80 by 100 feet on the north side of Washing ton street, between Trinity Place and Twentieth street. Consideration, $27. 600. The purchaser was F. L. Shull. The property was owned by Sophia Klosterman and Mary Mayer. Mr. Shull bought the property as an investment. He has been very fortunate on upper Washington street. The first prop erty lie owned on Washington is be tween Twenty-first and Twenty-second streets, which lie bought two years ago for about $50,000. He opened a street Into the property, which is now called King street, and cut the prop erty into lots, making a profit of about $20,000. He then bought a quarter block on the southeast corner of Ella and Washington streets for $30,000, and resold it at a profit of $10,000. He then purchased 100 by 150 on the south east corner of King and Washington streets for $40,000. He sold this a fewV days ago to James Muckle fbr $45,000. Mr. Shull is a great believer in upper Washington street. The sale made by Mr. Daly to Mr. Shull Is the- fifth time the lot has passed through Mr. Daly's hands in three years. He sold it' first to Mrs. Agnaw for $8500, then to Louis G. Clarke the following day for $9500, three months after to E. W. Wright for $12,000, and four months after to Miss Wolfe for $15,000. DISCUSS NEW FRANCHISE East Side Organizations Fear Ef fects of Referendum. Delegations from North Albina, Sell wood and Rose City Park held a long conference with the Fed erated Trades Council Friday night at 2r0i Second street over the railroad fran chise. Sellwood was represented by F. Austin and J. W. Campbell, Rose, City Park by O. E. Carter, and North Albina by J. H. Nolta, as chairmen of the re spective delegations. Saliwood delegates represented . that the referendum would prevent Erection of carbarns at the Golf Links. Rose City delegates feared it would prevent extension of the Rose City carline and the North Albina spoke for the extension of the carline to the Swift plant. After the delegates had represent ed their case they retired to let the union men form their own decision; The franchise will be further discussed at a mass-meeting Monday in North Al bina. At that meeting Dr. C. H. Chap man. Isaac 'Sweet and H. J. Parkinson will speak for the referendum. Council man W. T. Vaughn will be present and explain the franchise. Patten Will Not Talk. HUTCHINSON. Kan.. May 8. James A. Patten passed through Hutchinson this morning, on his way to Chicago. He de clined to be interviewed. A ton of Dead Sea water will yield 187 pounds of gait when - evaporated. . Local Bank Takes Bonds. ROSEBURG, Or.. May 8. (Special.) As the result of the action of the City Council last night in awarding the bonds recently issued by the city for street Improvement purposes, to the Douglas County Bank: of this city, the city is assured that the money will be ready immediately to commence the work of paving the streets. Twenty blocks of streets will be paved at the start, and a new bridge built across Deer Creek In the heart of he city. Seventy thousand dollars will be spent directly upon the district to be paved and on the bridge. Other streets of the city will also receive attention.
