SITUATION SAME AS 1887 Ieemoerats Control Houw and Re publicans Hare .Majority in S-en-al Former Deny Flection of Every G. O. P. State Officer. lXTIANAPOLIS. Dee. 19. (Special.) Men who are conversant with Indiana political history are watching: the va rious steps in the legislative situation with a arrest deal of interest and won derlng if history Is going to repeat it self at the coming session. As com pared, with the memorable struggle ending with the election of David Tur pi over Benjamin Harrison to the Sen ate In 1887, the situation is precisely the same, except that the positions of the two parties are exactly reversed, the Democrats then being in control of the Senate and the Republicans hav ing a majority in the House of Rep resentatives. Carrying out the analogy, the Re publicans had filed a number of con tests with the evident Intention of un seating Democrats in the House, and thus getting a majority on joint bal lot. Now the Democrats are contesting the election of the Republican state officers with one exception. The Senate majority is preparing to meet the Democrats on exactly the same ground that the Democrats met the Republicans in 1887. or In other words, are arranging to contest the election of one Democrat in that body for every contest that the Democrats consider in the House. They say their action will e the same ss the Demo crats' action regardless of the merits of the Individual rases. been employed in the Catholic Home at Oswego, is in the County Jail charged with breaking two windows at the institution.
