BEACH SEASON PROMISES TO BREAK RECORD THIS YEAR AS TO LENGTH MAIOOND i VLT HIGH TIDE' LONG BEACH. Wash., Aug. 29. CSpeclal.) The seasonal activity at North Beach is holding; out re markably well. Very few Summer tour ists or vacationists have as yet left this resort. It Is noticeahle that th majority of those leaving are campers and cottagers, although! In many In stances the beach residence's will be kept open for two or three, weeks yet. The recent excursion from . Eastern Oregon arid Washington brought hun dreds of guests, and many affairs, so cial and general, were given. Automobile parties have been nu merous this past week, guests of the various hostelries enjoying outings and picnics to the famous points of interest on this beach. Guests from Tforth Beach Inn, Hackney Cottage, the Portland Hotel, the- Shellbourne, the Chamberlain Cottage and Sunset Hotet have taken trips of this nature the past week. , One of the largest parties of the season was given on Monday evening at the Salt Air. There were six "hos tesses. Mrs. F. O. Jennings. Mrs. W. R Ruppell. Mrs. John Archbold, Mrs. C E. Hadley. Miss Jessie Thompson, Miss .Daisy Small and Mrs. C. E. Ireland. The rooms were beautifully decorated with cut flowers and ferns, and the dining room was especially artistic with" its strings of Chinese lanterns and can dles. A short musical programme was given, followed by cards. After the luncheon, a. small, dance .took place.. Several, very pretty gowns were no ticed. Mrs. C. E. Ireland, who presided at the punch bowl, looking especially charming in a hand-emDroidered white lingerie dress. The first prise of the evening was won by Mrs. E. B. Mc ' Farland, with Mrs. W. E. Ruppell a close contestant for the honors. Among those invited were: Misses Herminie Bach. Miss Kate Brasel, accompanied by-Miss Lucille J-'enton and James Fenton, are sojourning at Breakers Station. Mrs. J. A. Dick and her son. Stewart, are guests of her sister, Mrs. F. B. Hughes. Horton Graham, with Mrs. Graham and their young sons, Rupert and Mau rice, are domiciled In one of the Knoll cottages. With them is Miss Grace Rycknian, who has recently returned from an extensive trip through British Columbia. William Reld. of Portland, is a guest at North Beach. Mrs. W. G. Martin, with her daugh ters. Miss Ruth Martin and Miss Marlon Martin, are guests at Sunset Hotel. Miss Antoinette Wagner, of Port i land's younger folks, is an attractive arrival at the Shellbourne. Rabbi Jonah B. Wise has recently been a guest of the hostelry at Break ers Station. - E. Hazeldorn and Miss Hilda Hazel dorn are registered at the Sunset Hotel. Miss Ann Goodwin and Miss Edith Burns have arrived to be guests of Miss Mabel Gardner, who Is In the Bell cottage at Long Beach. S. L. Wash., Aug. 29. (Special.) Tourists and vacationists continue to come to Ocean Park and at this season of the year it presents many attractive features to keep .even the camping parties here. The great est .exodus Is among the cottagers, but it will be mid-September before there Is any diminishing In the Satur day and Sunday guests who come to the park. The weather continues cool and the surf bathing has never been finer. Mrs. J. Stuart and young son Gordon are Installed In their Ocean Park cot tage and will remain till mid-September. Mrs. Stuart's cousin, Chester Mo Nell, Is with them. Rev. T. J. Thompson and family are In a camping party In a picturesque part of the park. Dr. and Mrs. J. A. SEASON'S EXD SOT IX SIGHT Crowds Booked at Seaside Hotels Far Into Month of September. SEASIDE, Or., Aug. 29. (Special.) Contrary to all expectations, this sea son Is going to establish a precedent for length. It will be late September before the general exodus from beach points begins.- The cottages remain open and, while eoclal affairs are on the wane, there Is no diminishing in the crowds that flock here for over Sunday visits. The recent morning rains only served to, make more rare the days that followed. The Moore Hotel, Sargeant's Seaside House and OIIEGOXIAX, PORTLAND, -SEALT rirxn. f?P vwar. Locksley Hall are booked far Into Sep tember, and the season for Eastern tourists who reach thte Coast In the Fall, Is only Just beginning. The most pretentious social affair of the past week was the launching party given by Miss Ruby Scott, of Portland, and Miss Lillian Elwell. of Vancouver. The six boats and launches were strung with gayly colored Chlneae lanterns, which, added to the display of fire works from the small crafts, gave a most beautiful and brilliant effect, not unlike a miniature Venice. The boats were filled with guests, and the air re sounded with songs and happy volcee, accompanied by the soft strains from stringed, instruments. Hundreds of spectators occupied positions on the bridge and along the banks of the beautiful little Necanicum stream. After two hours spent on the river, the party was landed and repaired to the beaoh, where a huge pyramidal bonfire awaited them. Watermelon and a typ ical bonfire luncheon were served. The party was chaperoned by Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Metcalfe and Mrs. Elwell. Those participating were: 'Miss Desda Gold smith, Miss Ethel Morris. Mlsa Dorothy Eichenlaub, Miss Moda Goldsmith, Miss Hazel Holland, Miss Beatrice Hidden, Miss Margaret Du Bols, Miss Ruby Scott, Mies Pearl Elwell- and Miss Lil lian Elwell; and Messrs. Harry Moore, Glenn z'ercival, Edwin Patten, Clifford Moore,- Elmer Kruse,- Herbert Cooke, Frank Scott and Tom Dobson. One of the prettiest children's parties of the season was that which marked the sixth natal anniversary of Lucille Levy, the charming little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. Levy, of Portland. The party proper was given at Locks ley Hall, where Mrs. Levy and her daughter are spending the Summer. After a series of games and music, the birthday dlnnervwas served In the par lors of a caterer on the picturesque sheii road. The little hostess and her party guests were seated at one long table, and the elder members of the party occupied seats at smaller tables ranged about the room. The'-decera tions were very elaborate, having been sent .from 'Portland bv Mr. -Lew fof the occasion. The candles, service and napkins, as well as the hand-decorated place cards, and -the decorations of sweet peas and carnations were In lovely tones ot pink. The little hostess and her -friends were dressed in the same soft pink shades, and the Ices, bon-bons and cakes carried out the general color scheme. Lucille received many beautiful and unique gifts. There were 36 guests who partook of nor hos pitality. Seated at the table with the small hostess were Ruby Porter, Jennie Porter. An interesting whist party was given recently by Miss Leah Cohen at Crow'e Nest Cottage, the beach home of Mrs. S. Cohen. The favors were most unique and original and at a late hour refresh ments were served on the lawn, which was lighted with Japanese lanterns. Mips Cohen's guests were: Mises Mar guerite Polish, Lillian Parcel, Vivien Greenwood, Violet -Jennings, Belle Jen nings, Florence Jennings and Laura Wilson- - A pretty little party was given this past week by Mrs. George- W. Hoyt in honor of her little daughter Martha's birthday anniversary. The afternoon was epent with music and games and later a birthday dinner was served. The young guests were Ph.lena King, Elizabeth Huber, Beatrice Locke, Mer clle Carlock, Constance Mitchell, Wini fred Huber.
