They are walking, by easy stages, from Newport to the Siuslaw River and from thence will take the stage home to Eugene. Drew Grifiin and wife, of Eugene, are guests at the Damon House at Nye Beach. LONG BEACH. . Aug. 8. (Special.) North Beach is swinging into mid-season glory. The cool air and bracing winds are wonderfully exhilarating after the heat of the city., and the steamers Potter and Hassalo bring crowds on every trip. Parsons Orchestra Is here and will re main throughout August. Besides the dances and social aiTalrs there is every imaginable sport for the amusement of Summer guests. Bowling, tennis, fishing with fish a plenty, automoblling along the 20-mlle course of hard beach sand, riding, driving, a chance game of croquet, story telling on the lawns, bathing in the surf, straw rides, bonfires, you may find amusements galore for every hour of the day. . Great preparations are going torwora for the tennis .tournament which will be held here during the third week in Au gust, and the hotels are already booking guests for the event. Trtns to North Head. The outing was in the na ture of a picnic, with basket luncheon and an early morning start was, made from CentervlUe. The party spent the day in visiting North Head, Fort Canby and Dead Man's Hollow, returning the evening, after a most enjoyable out ing. In the party were Ralph Knight, Miss Effie Johnstone. There are no end of good camping places at Ocean Park, and each' one Is as good as the other. One finds cool woods, cold water, sea breezes and piny fragrant air. Everything is primeval. Just as Nature fashioned and molded it. The quietude and. restfulness of the park Is one of its remarkable, as well ae delightful features. Every train brings parties of campers and cot tagers who have returned season after season to this lovely spot, and the month of August sees the park at Its height of seasonal activity. Catching left for Roseburg yesterday morning. From there they will go to Bandon, on the Coast, for a week, and then back to Cow Creek Canyon. They will be gone two weeks. Mr. Clarage H. Himes and his mother returned, last Wednesday from Eugene whither they went several days before to visit Mrs. S. J. Doty, an old schoolmate of the latter many years ago at Eola, Polk County. , Dr. A. Tllzer with his little son Al fred were frequent visitors to the Sea tilde House during the week. The doctor left 'for Portland Friday, after spending a most delightful vacation with his family. Miss Katharine Davey, a popular young woman of this city, has Just returned from an extended trip in the South, in cluding San Francisco, having enjoyed a most delightful vacation and visit with friends and relatives. A. W. Lambert, of the " East Side, re turned a few days ago from a trip of several days' drive in the Nehalem Val ley, going in by Vne waT ot Buxton and coming out by the way of St. Helens. He found good fishing on the Nehalem. Miss Marie Lallement has returned from a three-weeks' outing at Seaside, where she greatly enjoyed the hospital ity of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Jennings. Her farewell muslcales at Moore Hotel, Sea side House, and Locksley Hall were much appreciated. Raymond Frohman. the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. I.
