While any premature death is concerning, and we will dil- igently investigate deaths that happen in our jurisdiction in collaboration with the Mult- nomah County and Oregon State Medical Examiner’s offic- es, PPB has no reason to believe these 6 cases are connected. The PPB case of Kristin Smith remains under investigation, and no additional information is available. The cause and manner Centenarian turns 102! Happy Birthday to Evergie Lena Pittman-Harris Evergie Lena Pittman-Har- ris turns another year. Born May 19th, 1921, she has been a pillar of wealth and inspiration as à pediat- ric nurse, foster parent, and moth- er of ten. Join us in wishing her more years to come in good health with the blessings of the Holy Fa- ther. She was born in Little Rock Arkansas, moving to Portland, Or- egon in the 1940's. She is the only person in the United States alleged to be named "Evergie" at the pres- ent time. As the oldest living member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church, many of her children re- ceived baptismal under the auspic- es of the late Révérend O.B. Wil- liams. Their father Mr. Ulicious Harris, (also an ordained minister) and Mrs. Harris raised their chil- dren in Southeast Portland, where Mr. Harris, one of the first African American union carpenters, built their home. Presently, Mrs. Harris lives in the Sabin Community, and is the longest living resident in her im- mediate area. of her death is so far undeter- mined per the Medical Exam- iner. Detectives are asking for anyone with information about Kristin’s death to contact them. The death investigation of Ashley Real is also continuing by the Clackamas County Sher- iff’s Office. PPB Missing Persons Unit Detectives are coordinat- ing with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office on the death in- vestigation. CCSO is describing hers as a suspicious death, but they have not concluded that she was the victim of a homicide. Anyone with information is en- Continued on Page 9
