The development will include a new community-centered healthcare model that combines mental health care and addiction services with primary care, in addition to addressing the need for affordable housing with an adjacent 52-unit apartment building. New Center Brings Hope Garlington Center expansion to begin this year O livia O livia T he P OrTland O bserver Northeast Portland’s Garlington Center, a longtime provider of mental health care and addiction services in the African American community, is scheduled to break ground this year on a new $20 million health clinic that will integrate behavior health care with primary care and address the increasing need for affordable housing. The major development by Cascadia Behavioral Health was put together with the help of local donors and or- ganizations. One of those groups, FamilyCare Health, a Medicare and Medicaid insurer serving lower-income res- idents, recently announced it was supporting the construc- tion with a gift of $500,000.
