November 26, 2014 Fortiani» (Obstruer Arts X X. 1 IMI MUI IIÀISHIM Raw and Heartfelt Blues Curtis Salgado tours for hit CD ‘Soul Shot’ Curtis Salgado, touring in sup port o f his blistering A lligator Records debut CD, “Soul Shot,” will give two performances at Jimmy Mak's in Portland on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29. A Portland favorite for years, Salgado won three 2013 Blues Mu sic Awards including the coveted B.B. King Entertainer of The Year. He also won for Soul Blues Male Artist of The Year for the second consecutive year, and for Soul Blues Album of The Year (SOUL SHOT). Effortlessly mixing R&B, funk and blues with a delivery that is raw and heartfelt, he moves with ease from the tenderest ballads to the most full-throated stompers. In 2006 Salgado was sidelined when he underwent a successful liver transplant and then shortly afterwards was diagnosed with and then beat lung cancer. Like so many musicians, Curtis had no health in surance. His medical expenses were paid for in part by a huge outpour ing of love and money from his fellow m usicians and his huge Northwest fan base. Motown Singer Remembered Jimmy Ruffin Page II (AP) - Jimmy Ruffin, the Motown singer whose hits include "What Becomes o f the Brokenhearted" and "Hold on to My Love," is being remembered after his Nov. 17 death at the age of 78. Jimmy Lee Ruffin was bom on May 7, 1936, in Collinsville, Mississippi. He was signed to Berry Gordy's Motown Records, and had a string of hits in the 1960s, including "What Becomes of the Broken hearted," which became a Top 10 pop hit. He had continued success with songs such as "I've Passed This Way Before" and "Gonna Give Her All the Love I've Got," but Ruffin marked a comeback in 1980 with his second Top 10 hit, "Hold on to My Love." The song was produced by Robin Gibb, the Bee Gees member who died in 2012. Ruffin was the older brother of Tempta tions lead singer David Ruffin, who died in 1991 at age 50.
