N o vem ber 19, 2014 Fortiani» (Bbseruer R eligion In Loving Memory William Woods Sr. A memorial service for William Harold W oods Sr., who died peace fully at home with loving family members present on Oct.30,2014, will be Held Friday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 5828 N.E. Eighth Ave. He was bom M ay 18, 1921 in Tulsa, Okla., to Florence Cherry and George Edward W ood Sr., the third o f six children. The fam ily soon m oved to Coffeyville, Kansas. In the early 1940s, he cam e to Portland as a m em ber o f the C ivil ian Conservation Corps (CCC) helping with the developm ent and conservation o f forests by plant ing trees, constructing service buildings, and working to build rural public roadw ays. It was in Portland, that he m et the love of his life, Cledie Lee Green. They m arried and from this union they were blessed with four daughters and four sons. He w orked d iligently to p ro vide for his fam ily, from ser vices as a P orter on the railroad, doing foundry w ork at A lcoa, and as a bus d riv er for T ri-M et. He w as a person w ith m ultiple skills and talen ts w ho liked to help others and in teract w ith people from all w alks o f life. He helped w ith com m unity projects related to educational concerns and neighborhood living co n d i tions. He loved to travel, fish, bowl, and watch both college and pro fessional football while keeping up- to-date on the latest political issues. He was an avid Trail Blazers fan. He sang in the choir, was an usher, and served on various church boards and com m ittees. The phrase “It takes a village to raise one child” sym bolizes how the youth in the church and com munity felt about his m entorship and guidance. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, George W ood Jr. and three sisters, M ar garet W hite, M ary Jean Berry, and M axine Slaughter. He is survived by his dear wife T erry F amily F uneral H ome Cledie; a sister, K atherine Hale, his daughters, Phillis Pace, Judy W ebb (L arry), D aphne B arnes and M argot W oods; and sons, W illiam W oods Jr. (S aundra), Clarence W oods (Y vonne), Korla W oods and Leonardo W oods. He also had a host o f grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as w ell as m any honorary fam ily m em bers.
