November 19, 2014 Helping with College and Careers Shay James, senior director for the Franklin High School cluster’ has been promoted to senior direc tor of College and Career Readiness for Portland Public Schools. Assistant Superintendent Anto nio Lopez said James will oversee the district’s goal of getting all stu dents to graduation prepared for college and career. James served as Franklin High School principal for six years and vice principal for two. During her time at Franklin, the school dramati cally increased access for histori cally under-served students to Advanced Placement courses and Shay James closed the achievement gap in its Priortoherworkat Franklin, James graduation rate between white, Af was assistant principal at Sellwood rican American, and Latino stu Middle School and a teacher at dents.
