l\H I I4IM4IM Johns Parade The annual St. Johns Bizarre takes place on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the same day as the historic St. Johns Parade, a north Portland favorite for 52 years. The parade starts at noon. The Bizarre is the perfect kick-off event for Portland’s vibrant street fair season, with an eclectic lineup Ural Thomas of local musical talent, dozens of craft vendors and artists, and a beer garden featuring only locally- brewed libations. Organizers have worked to put together an eclectic lineup of bands that will be treading the boards of the Plaza Stage, located at the foot age of the majestic St. Johns Bridge. On tap are Ural Thomas and The Pain, Aan, Illmaculate, Summer Can nibals and the Edna Vázquez Quin tet. Birthday Party for Centenarians Meals on Wheels People will host a birthday party for area residents age 99 and older on W ednesday,M ay M at 1:30p.m. at the Riverside G olf and Coun try Club in northeast Portland. Open to anyone age 99 and older, the event will feature a special birthday cake from New Seasons Market; “Happy Birth day” will be sung by local ac tress and singer Susannah Mars; with more entertainment by the Millenium Clarinets Quartet and the Ballroom Dance Company. “We are celebrating seniors and all they bring to our com mu nity,” said M eals on Wheels People Executive Director Joan Smith. “Our seniors not only dine with us daily, but many o f them volunteer and continue to find meaningful worth well into then- second century. Sunday Brunch for Moms Honor mom with a delicious spread courtesy o f the Oregon Zoo. The zoo’s annual M other’s Day brunch takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in the Cascade Crest banquet center. This year’s menu includes m ade-to-order omelets and waffles, bagels with house-cured lox, bacon and eggs, pastries, seasonal fruit and more. The all-you-care-to-eat buffet is $30 for ages 12 and up, and $ 13 for children ages 2-11.
