She would rep resent Oregon on the West Central Conference Volleyball Team. Agnew, the most valuable player for her high school team this year, and a second team all-state player in volleyball, is asking for community support to pay her expected ex penses of $5,000. The young athlete said the Aus tralia trip would be a powerful expe rience for her future. She hopes at tending the tournament will open opportunity to get noticed by col lege coaches and attain a scholar ship. “It will mean so much to me and I will appreciate all of those who help me out on this spectacular ex perience,” she said. Agnew plans to attend the Uni versity of Oregon to play volleyball. (AP photo) (AP) — Gary Payton is among this year's inductees for the Bas ketball Hall o f Fame. In addition to his nine All-Star Game selections, Payton was a nine-tim e NBA A ll-D efensive Team selection and 1996 D efen sive Player of the Y earduringa 17- year career with Seattle, M ilw au kee, the Lakers, Boston and M i ami. He averaged 16.3 points and ended his career ranked fourth all- time in steals with 2,445 and eight in assists with 8,966. A two-tim e Olympic gold medal winner (1996 and 2000), Payton won an NBA cham pionship with the Heat in 2006. "W hen I started playing bas ketball in the NBA, I ju st wanted to be a guy in the NBA doing som ething," said Payton on M on day. "W hen I started getting bet ter I never believed 1 would be in the Hall o f Fame. I never thought I'd be at this level right now." Prior to his NBA career, Payton was Sports Illustrated's National Player o f the Year in 1990 while at Oregon State. He still holds the school records for points, assists and steals.
