Wilson, 87, of Portland, transitioned into eter nity on Oct. 24, 2012 surrounded by family in the home of her be loved cousins, Kathryn and Dwight Blue. She was bom in Lumpkin, Ga. on Nov. 23, 1924, the daughter of D. Frank and A nnie (G oode) D aniels. She m arried A rthur “Artie” L. Wilson on Feb. 15,1949. To this union a daughter, Zoe A. Wilson Price and a son, Arthur “Artie” L. Wilson II were bom. Dottie was educated in the public schools in Birmingham, Ala. and attended Spellman College in Atlanta. She travelled around the world with her husband who was a professional baseball player with the Negro Baseball League and the National Baseball League, living in many locations, finally settling in Portland in 1953. Her career in retail ended with retirement in 1986 after 26 years with Meier & Frank (now M acy’s). Dottie was an active, faithful and devoted member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ which later became Walker Temple COGIC. At both churches, she held many positions including secretary, church announcer, choir president, Father’s Day and M other’s Day coordinator, home and foreign missions president, hospitality president, pastor’s aide, purity class teacher, Sunday School teacher, sunshine band president, and youth depart ment advisor. She held many other titles but was most proud of being “A child of God!” Dottie never missed an opportunity to share her love for the Lord to family, friends and strangers alike. She was reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents; her husband; her “brother”/cousin Rupert Upshaw; and best friend Opal T. Johnson. Surviving her are her daughter Zoe (Jesse) of Forsyth, 111.; son Artie of Honolulu; granddaughters Danielle L., Chloe N. and Madison N. Wilson, all of Honolulu; and a host of family and friends. A homegoing celebration will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Emmanuel Temple, 1033 N. Sumner. A visitation will be held between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
