A lthough it's too early to talk about the specifics o f the new char acter — w hich w ould depend on the chosen actor or actress' background — G alarza said they are looking for som eone capable o f singing and im provising in both English and Spanish and w ith a good sense o f humor. "Sesam e Street" debuted in 1969 and has added versions in co u n tries like Israel, N igeria, G erm any and M exico, w here "Plaza Sesam o" is produced. T he series has alw ays tried to adapt to the realities o f the c h a n g in g A m e ric a n p o p u la tio n , w hich has seen a sharp increase in H ispanics in the last decades. M a r ia ( p la y e d b y S o n ia M anzano) and Luis (Emilio Delgado) debuted in 1971. T he ch aracter o f R osita, the turquoise m onster w ith enorm ous arm s, an orange nose and pinkeyebrow s, debuted in 1993 with the h elp o f M ex ic a n p u p p e te e r C arm en O sbahr, w ho also lends her voice to O vejita.
