The family-friendly outdoor movie series will be held each Friday night through August at Beaverton City Park, Southwest Fifth Street and Hall Boulevard. "The Flicks by the Fountain se ries has been a Beaverton favorite for many years, " said Mayor Denny Doyle. "Bring your family and friends to a free movie in a beautiful park on a warm summer night ! I can't think of a better way to spend an evening." The series will open with the movie UP, followed by The Muppets on Aug. 10, Grease on Aug. 17, and The Goonies on Aug. 24. The annual event will feature Obon dance, taiko performances, a Portland Shotokan Karate Do dem onstration, children’s activities, and talks on Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. The festival will have a beer and sake garden, and non alcoholic beverages will be for sale as well. Obonfest is a summertime Japa nese festival commemorating one's ancestors. In their honor, lanterns are hung, Obon dance is performed, memorial visits are made, and food is offered at house altars and temples.
