Glen Hansard and Markéta irglová broke out onto the pop- culture scene after outstanding performances in the 2007 film “Once,” - a touching love story about two aspiring musicians. The film's hit single, "Falling Slowly," won the duo an Acad emy Award for Best Original Song. “The Swell Season are an unstoppable duo,” said Krista Swan, the zoo’s event coordina tor. “Their music is peaceful and serene, it’s as if it were made to be performed under the evening sky on the Oregon Z oo’s con cert stage.” The Folk-rock duo, The Swell Season, performs Friday, Aug. 2 0 as Black Francis, the illustrious part o f the Oregon Zoo's summer concert series. Black Francis Write Around Release Party Join the com munity group Write around Portland for the release o f its anthology, Follow Me, Move the World, with a celebration o f writing in commu nity. Writers from the group ’ s sum mer workshops for low income seniors, adults with mental ill ness, women in residential ad diction treatment and many oth ers will share their work. The celebration will be held Friday, Aug. 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at First United Meth o d ist C h u rc h , 1838 S.W . Jefferson St. at the Goose Hol low TriMet MAX stop.
