A nd if they already have, to teach them how to heal from it.” M itchell, a longtim e com m unity volunteer, plans to donate a p o r tion o f the sales from her C D and her play to locally based o rg an iza tions that o ffer m ental-health ser vices and self-esteem building pro gram s to w om en o f color. Volunteers are col lecting clothing, new undergar ments, and hygiene items to give away to homeless and needy men, women and children. The donation drive culminates on Saturday, Sept. 25 when the street in front of the Mission at 15 N.W. Third Ave. is closed for a street party that includes a free barbeque meal, Christian outreach and music. “People in need can get cloth ing for the coming winter months in a caring and fun environ ment,” said Mission Executive Director Bill Russell. “Thisevent has grown a great deal since it began five years ago.
