Jackson Local History Preserved During PCC Construction A partnership betw een Portland Community College and the Oregon Historical Society has helped pre serve the beloved collection o f the late Rev. John H. Jackson and other m em entos o f local A frican A m eri can history from the C ascade C o m munity H istory Center. Jackson’s papers w ere housed at Terrell Hall on the PCC C ascade C am pus in north Portland, but with ongoing construction projects, the collection w as moved to the O r egon H istorical Society. T h e co l lections will m ove back to Terrell Hall in 2005 when projects on the expanded cam pus are com plete. Jackson Hall was nam ed after the late pastor w ho served M ount Olivet Baptist C hurch in northeast Portland and served as d irector o f the board o f the A lbina M inisterial A lliance. The cam pus building re ceived a renovation and new wing this past year, w hich w as com pleted in Septem ber. It adds ap proxim ately 17,500 square feet o f space and contains six new sci ence labs and four new classroom s. “ R ev. T o d ay ’s headlines are not much different from the past. Jesus chose to com e to earth not as a conquering King, but as one o f us. N ot in a royal procession iso lated from the realities o f hum an struggle, but placed in a feed trough right in thè m iddle o f the hum an struggle. G od anchored him self to o ur w orld through the com m on and everyday realitieso f our li vesso we could know hint and be invited to be with him w h e n o u rtim e o n Earth is com pleted. W hen w e see the headlines in the news, rem em ber, Jesus cam e to for the P ortland O bserver insure that we find peace by taking part in a w orld w ithout peace. C hristm as is a rem inder that G od loved us so much that he would w ear hum an skin and face hum an challenge so we could find ever lasting peace. “ Peace on earth, goodw ill to m en!" T h a t's G o d 's blessing to his troubled children. H ear the bad new s o f the headlines and be re m inded o f G o d 's grace.
