Businesses Get Help With Workplace Diversity Self-directed profiles aimed at helping people understand how they think, act, and relate to others B usinesses, churches, and or ganizations can learn about diver sity in the w orkplace through one- day w orkshops offered by G eorge F o x U n iv e r s ity ’s d ir e c to r o f m ulticultural services. The program , “ B ridges to U n derstanding E xploring D ifferences in the W orkplace,” helps em ploy ees and organization m em bers learn how they personally react to d iv er sity issues, including gender, e th nic, and m ulticultural differences. Positive perspectives on those d if ferences are suggested. Daryl Dixon, George Fox’s direc tor o f m ulticultural services since 1999, will teach the four-hour work- sh o p s to b e o f f e r e d at th e university’s Portland Center, 12753 S. W. 68th A ve. W orkshops can be scheduled for groups o f various type and sizes. W ork site presenta tions cam also be arranged. D ixon had previously presented the program for school districts, governm ent agencies, businesses and ch u rc h e s. L ast sp rin g , all George Fox employees participated in the diversity w orkshop led by Dixon. This the first time Dixon will lead w orkshops open to the public. Each workshop includes five ses sions, each focusing on a different aspect o f diversity aw areness. Par ticipants take the “ D iscovering D i versity Profile,” w hich assesses in dividual attitudes and reactions to a num ber o f diversity issues. The confidential, self-directed profile aims to help participants under stand how they think, act, and re late to others. Convention Center Prepares For Expansion The Oregon Convention Center will break ground in its new 370,000 square foot expansion in February.
