Ms. Ewell was b o m M a y 2 8 ,1949, in Lancaster, Pa., and was reared in GreatFalls,M ont. She attended W alla W alia College and G eorgetown U ni versity. In W ashington. D C., she w a s a v o lu n te e r u sh e r fo r the K ennedy C enter and a bookkeeper, bank teller and junior high school tutor and teacher. In 1970she m oved to Portland and was a precious-m et als technician for Tektronix until the early 1980s. She w as a volunteer teacher’s aide for Portland A dventist A cadem y in the early 1990s. Survivors include her daughter, Sara Sm ith; sons, W illiam L. Smith and BrandonC. Smith; parents, Edwin and Jean Ew ell; brothers, D erek M., K ent W and G rant S. Ew ell; and sis ters, Traci K. Mrs. Krieger was bom Sept. 20,1919, in Tacoma. Her m aiden nam e was Thaut. She was a hom em aker w ho m oved to Portland in the 1930s. In 1942, she m arried John K rieger; he d ied in 1993. Survivors include her daughters, Barb M urray, Shirley Johnson and Betty Schw ab; sons, A lvin, Edw in and Thom as; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She w o rk ed fo r the H eathm an H otel for 10 years before retiring in 1987, and she was a former m em ber o f the Church o f Christ. In 1944, she m arried H enry S anders; he d ie d in 1984.
