In the 1950s and 60s, A frican
filmmakers began to em erge, telling
the story o f A frican culture, identity
and history by those w ho lived it
rather than by those w ho w itnessed
it. In the decades since, a rich body
o f work has resulted, as diverse as
the continent itself, reflecting on
e v e ry th in g from p re a n d p o st
colonial history, to “tribal” folklore
and politics to stories reflecting the
rapid transition from traditional to
m odem society.
This year w e are once again pleased
to host The A frican T raveling Film
Festival, an annual show case o f
re c e n t film s o f f e r in g d iv e rs e
perspectives on A frican culture and
broader appreciation o f the rich
traditions offered to the rest o f the
world.
All films w ill be show n at the Film
C enter's G uild Theater, 829 SW 9lh
at Taylor. A dm ission is $6, $5 for
