We also th in k th at m a in tain in g or expanding the existing inspection fee amounts to double taxation process. Property taxes already pay for fire inspection service.” The Portland City Council has made fire inspections part o f contract negotiations that have dragged on fo r se v e ra l m o n th s w ith the fire fig h te rs ’ union. Chamberlain said the City Council refuses to use part o fa $ l million Fire Bureau budget surplus to settle our c o n ta c t if we w ould agree to terminating the full-time inspection fee,” he said. “ But instead o f using part o f that $1 million surplus, the City Council wants to put money back into the g e n e ra l fund to use fo r o ther projects.” “Basically, theCity Council is offering to settle our contract if we would a g ree to te rm in a tin g fu ll-tim e inspector positions, assigning those duties to regular firefighters and continuing to charge property owners an inspection fee,” Chamberlain said. Police Bites C h i l d P o rn o g ra p h ers Arrested Sheri f f s deputies arrest two suspects on California Warrants At approximately 1130 hours this date, sh e riff s deputies Todd Lautenbach and Mark Galloway arrested two suspects who are wanted by the Kings County Sheriff's Office, Kings County Cali fomia, on charges ofChiId Pomography/Computer. Suspects (1) Daryl Cahail,W/M,d.o.b 12/11/62 and(2)Elizabeth Dumond, W/F, d.o.b 1/27/75 were arrested, without incident, at 8655 SW 11th Avenue in Portland and transported to the Justice Center Jail. The warrants indicate a bail amount of $ 1,000,000 on each suspect. N o date/ tim e has been set for arraignment at this time Further details will be forthcoming. Robbery Suspects Arrested On June 4, 2000, at 10:53 p.m., two juveniles robbed Foster’s Market located at 8533 SE 17th Avenue. A pellet handgun was displayed and an employee was ordered to open the safe. A small amount o f cash was taken. On June4,2000, at 11:07p.m . Byear- old Jesse James Puffenbarger was taken into custody near the railroad tracks at SE 11 th Avenue/Ochoco Street. Both Juveniles have been charged with Robbery in the Second Degree and have been lodged at M u ltn o m ah C o u n ty Ju v e n ile Detention Facility. Laidlaw Transit Driver Arrested For Sex Abuse (Charges) On Friday, June 2,2000, two 10 year- old female students for the Gresham/ Barlow school district, were attending a school function at Blue Lake Park in Fairview. The two students reported to a teacher, that while they were sitting in the grandstands at the park, a school bus driver approached them and had inappropriate contact. T h e d iv e r w as su b se q u e n tly identi tied as 48 year-old Donald Ralph Donaldson who resides at 49009 SW Carpenter Creek Road, in Forest Grove, Oregon. Donaldson has been a school bus driver for the last 5 years, currently being employed by Laidlaw Transit in Forest Grove. On the day o f the incident, Donaldson had transported fourth and fi fth grade students from the Forest Grove area to Blue Lake Park. On June 6, 2000, Donaldson was interviewed and arrested by the Multnomah County Child Abuse program s to help residents and businesses understand how certain practices contaminate groundwater and learn what can be done to keep groundwater clean. The Town Hall Meeting promise to be a vibrant discussion and exchange o f ideas about the Draft Ordinance. Members o f the V ancouver Planning Commission will be present. A public h earin g b e fo re the P lanning Commission to consider adoption of the O rd in a n c e is te n ta tiv e ly scheduled for Tuesday, August 8 with City Council consideration anticipated in the Fall. M M Crime Stoppers The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division is asking for your help in solving a felony hit and run that ended in a fatality. On Sunday, May 7, 2000, at approximately 9:30 in theevening, at SW 4th A ve. and SW Washington St. 88-year-old Jesse O. Truitt was crossing 4th Ave. when he was struck by a vehicle . After striking the victim, the suspect vehicle accelerated rapidly and was last seen on 4th Avenue. The suspect vehicle is decried as a “big” white 4-wheel drive truck, similar to a Chevrolet or Toyota. The vehicle possibly has front-end damage from the impact. We ll be close behind you. Aircraft Incident Multnomah County Sheriffs Office River Patrol responded to an aircraft incident In the Columbia River just after 11 o ’clock. A pilot in his float plane landed in the Columbia River after suffering some sort o f structural problem, causing one wing to go into the water. The pilot was uninjured. MCSO River Patrol towed the aircraft to Chinook Landing boat ramp. The plane is a single engine, two person experimental aircraft. Federal Aviation Administration in v e stig a to rs are on the scene c u rre n tly and w ill conduct an investigation.
