Chris Rock Showcases Live Set at Berks Jazz Fest Gerald Veasley * K enny Blake * Joe M cBride * Keith Carlock. While crowds throughout Europe have cheered Heads Up International recording artists Joe McBride, Kenny Blake and Gerald Veasley at special live performances o f the Heads Up Super Band, the trio have rarely teamed for U.S. appearances. However, stateside fans are in for a treat when the Seattle-based label releases the band's first international recording— Heads U p Super Band Live at Berks Jazz Fest. Featuring pianist/vocalist McBride, saxophon ist Blake, and bassist Veasley with drummer Keith Carlock, the disc will also be an enhanced CD featuring video footage form the 1998 concert in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Gaye H irsch is the HBO executive in charge o f the film. D orothy D andridge traces the true story o f the legendary black actress (Berry) from her youth to her tragic early death. D andridge achieved success in the title role o f the 1954 film “ Carm en Jones,” m aking history by becom ing the first black w om an ever nom inated for a Best Actress Academy Award. Along w ith her accom plishm ent came heartache and despair over tw o high-profile m arriages, a love affair with O tto Prem inger, the in stitutionalization o f her only daugh ter and a drug dependency. Halle Berry has starred in such feature films as the recent “Why Do Fools Fall in love," as well as “ Bulworth,” “B.A.P.S., ’’“The Rich M an’s W ife,” “ Executive D eci sion,’’“The Flintstones" and “Los ing Isaiah,” am ong others.
