According to Theresa Williams
Stoudamire, the clinic’s director,
the building was badly run down
anddilapidated. “The layout wasn’t
efficient for our clients or our pro­
grams. Now we’ve not only in­
creased our efficiency, but we have
a great looking building as well. We
have to compete with the private
sector and we feel that the renova­
tion gives us a competitive edge,”
she said.

on Senate votine record
U.S. Senator Ron W yden sup­
ported the N ational A ssociation for
the A dvancem ent o fC o lo red People
(N A A C P )on 100% o fth eir key votes
in this session o f C ongress, earning
him an “ A " on the organization’s
report card.
“Senator W yden stood up with the
N A A C P to support issues like health
insurance for low incom e kids, school
construction and after school pro­
gram s,” said Mr. H ilary Shelton,
A cting D irector o f the W ashington
DC B ureau o f the N A A C P. “ He is a
hero, and w e 're very excited to have

him w orking with us on these is­
sues.”
The N A A C P 's report card was
based on several key votes, includ­
ing a vote for expanding health insur­
ance coverage for low incom e chil­
dren, a vote against elim inating affir­
m ative action program s, a vote for
funding for after school program s,
and the confirm ation votes for Alexis
Herman as Secretary o f Labor and
Dr. David Satcher as U.S. Surgeon
G en eral. W yden su p p o rted the
N A ACP position on all o f their key
votes.
“ T h e N A A C P is a p o w erfu l
w atchog for econom ic, educational,
and political equality in our coun­
try,” Wyden said. “ I’m proud to
stand with the N A A C P on so many
im portant issues.”
Earlier this month, W yden was
aw arded a Civil Rights Leadership
aw ard from the C oalition o f M inor­
ity Em ployees at the United States
D epartm ent o f A griculture (USDA).
T he aw ards recognize tenacity, lead­
ership and hard work in contributing
to diversity and the understanding o f
m inority issues.
