On February 27, George Fox held a Celebration o f Brotherhood. This is the first time the City ol Newberg has celebrated Black His tory. The celebration centered around the Mitchell-Phillips family. Twenty two years ago, the first African American family moved into the City o f Newberg. Their presence brought much suspicion and opposition. Through the y ears the family su f- fered through discrimination, emo tional and physical abuse. Through their stand forequality, they gained respect and the admiration o f many. The opinions began to change and more than two decades later the same family are now prominent and productive citizens o f N ewberg. The city that once opposed the arrival o f the Mitchell-Phillips family now join hands with them to promote a week o f peace and brotherhood. There were many activities go ing on in that week including the Mayor o f the City o f Newberg pre senting a proclam ation to the Mitchell-Phillips family. X I Melivn William's new album "Never Seen Your Face" will be in the store starting April 7, 1998. Guest appearance by Shirley Caesar, Marvin Winans, Harvey Watkins, Jr. and Bishop Tommie Locket.
