The extensive liner notes for G e nius & Soul are a combination ol long and short essays, with the longer biographical piece and track- by-track notation by Charles anil R&B historian David Ritz, and shorter contributions from such notables as B. B. K in g , Stevie W onder, W illie N elson, Billy Joel, Dr. John, Jimmie Vaughan, and Etta James.
