"I remember discovering Ray
Charles in 1958 w ith the song
'W h a t d I Say,"' says box set producer
and Rhino Senior Director of A&R .lames
Austin. "To have the opportunity tocreate the
ultimate Ray Charles package that I would
want to buy, is not only a labor of love, but
truly an honor. It’s not everyday that you get to
work with a genius of this proportion."
One would be hard-pressed to find a musi
cal artist with as much crossover success as
Ray Charles. Not only did this legend define
both soul and rock’n’ roll as we know it today,
scoring hit after amazing hit, but he also struck
gold on the R&B charts, the pop charts, and
the country charts, and even had I i me to record
a lew blues, gospel, and jazz albums. Ray
Charles is arguably the most versatile musical
artist of the 20th century.
