P agi A8 A pril 23, 1997 • T he P or h and O bserver Albina Head Start Families Participate in a Six Week Cooking and Nutrition Class Albina Head Start and Share Our Strength-Operation Front Line work together to bring nutrition and food preparation information to families. Albina Head Start families participate in a six week cooking and nutrition class. During each class guest chefs demonstrate how to prepare nutritious, low fat and low budget meals. At the end o f each class participants receive a bag o f groceries with items needed to prepare the same meal at home for their families. During the fifth (5) class parents and chefs take a field trip to a local Fred Meyers store to shop and learn hands on money saving ideas. This field trip is sponsored by Meyer Trust. The final class is a potluck meal prepared by parents using the knowledge and information they received during class. Above L-R: Marlina Curtis, Megale and Jamie Lindon. On Thursday, May 1, 1997 at 10:00 AM, KBOO Radio will be airing a Special Documentary Program about African Americans during the Civil War. This entertaining drama will bring to life those obscure things that have been unknown to many people. Examples: African American officers, Black Confederates, the Free Black Middle Class and the real reasons for the Civil War. The program was written and produced by Mark Little. Narrators include Ken Boddie, Art Alexander, Reginald Hendrix, Margot Beutler and a list o f actors. The program is being brought to you by Hyalite, KBOO Radio, PGE, ATR, Black United Fund, US Bank - Jackson Foundation, Templeton Foundation and the Collins Foundation. MHCC Open House F eatu res Free Barbecue, M usic And Resource Fair Mt. Hood Community College will be celebrating “A Peak Expe rien ce” open house, Saturday, April 26, 10:30 a.m - 2:30 p.m. on the main campus at 26000 S.E. Stark St. in Gresham. The com munity is invited to come and en joy a free barbecue, art exhibit, entertainment and other activities while learning about the extensive selection ofprogram sand services the college offers. Guests can learn about a specific career field or program o f study by attending the Showcase Program Demonstrations from 11 a.m.-noon, and I p.m. - 2 p.m. Guests can visit classrooms and labs, meet faculty and staff, and obtain information materials on a wide variety o f pro grams. A drawing will be held for $25 tuition coupons at the conclu sion of each program demonstra tion. In addition, a Resource Fair will be held in the Vista Dining Cen ter. Campus representatives from all across campus will be available to answer questions and talk about th e ir p rogram s and serv ices. MHCC’s Rock Climbing Wall will be open for free climbing in the Aquatic Center from noon-4:30 p.m. M HCC's music groups will entertain from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the College Center Fireplace Lounge. Free campus tours and prize drawings will be conducted throughout the day and guests can see the best works of local high school students at the annual Mt. Hood District High School Art Exhibit in the Visual Arts Center Gallery. Check-in will be held all day in the College Center where partici pants can enter the prize drawings and obtain information materials, a schedule o f the day’s activities and free lunch coupons. Mt.
