Two completely different pro grams on alternate days feature great choreography, costuming and mu sic Program A (Thursday and Sat urday) includes Rhapsody in Blue, a modern ballet piece choreographed by Julane Stites; Lifted a profound modern piece by avid Ward; Oh. Lord, a jazz spiritual; //ft or miss, a body percussion piece choreo graphed by Keith Ferry; and So Old, So Good, ajazz, blues, tap and swing piece by Julane Stites and Terry Brock. Program B (Friday and Sun day) features two pieces choreo graphed by Melissa St.Clair, the modern Before and After and a con temporary tribute to Native Ameri cans, called Coyote Speaks. Other pieces include a reprise of Frederic Locke’s classical ballet, Carmina Burana; an Afro-Cuban tap piece by Aaron Pruitt Heather Cornell called Osihisa; a tap percussion piece by Kristin Brayson and Addani Stell called Raise N ' More Cane, and a Latin jazz number by Julane Stites entitled En Clave. Saturday, A pril 26,1997 9:00 Pm til 1:30 Am Mecca Temple 722 E Burnside Actors Conservatory Summer on State Session Taking place during the weeks of July 14 through July 30 (Session I) or August 6 through August 22 (Ses sion II) in the Firehouse Theatre in downtown Portland is the Portland Actors Conservatory’s Summer on State sessions for young actors. These sessions are an acting experience for all students interested in the art of acting and performance. These tlu ee- week sessions provide concentrated study in acting techniques, charac ter development and the professional rehearsal process, in a format that will be fun and enriching. Each session w ill have a Morning Class/Acting Development, (9 30 11 ), which offers the students an in- depth exploration into the disciplines of acting. Students will receive hands-on training, working in all aspects of acting: voice, movement, scene study, improvisation and character development Each session will also have an Afternoon Class/On Stage (1-4), which is a performance class, pro viding concentrated study in acting techniques, character development and the professional rehearsal pro cess, and culminating in a profes sionally-staged play production. The Afternoon Class students must be enrolled in the Morning Class as well. Session I is Mondas through Friday, July 14 through July 30. The Morning Class is at 9:30 AM until 11 AM, and the Afternoon Class is from I to 4 PM. There is a performance on July 30 at 4:00 PM. Session II is Monday through Friday, August 6 through August 22 (first class is Wednesday). The Morning Class is from 9:30 AM til 11 AM The Afternoon C lass is from I til 4 PM, with a perfor mance on August 22 at 4 PM. Registration begins immediately. Cost of either Session I or II is $150 for Morning Class or $400 for both Morning Class and Afternoon Class (compare that to day care). The faculty iscomprised ofsomeof the finest acting teachers for youths the Northwest has to offer. Teachers include: Karen B oettcher-Tate, Connor Kerns, Lenanne Sylvester and Beth Harper.
