H olyfield joined the legendary Muhammed A li as the only three time heavyweight champions. “ Evander proved what courage can do, he came to the occasion and did what he said he would,” said King. “ But don’t write M ike Tyson o ff yet. We are going to dance again. We are going to see i f we can put together the greatest rematch in the history o f boxing.” Tyson received $30 m illion while H olyfield earned $11 m illion for Saturday’s fight. I f a rematch is staged, expect Holyfield to command more than $30 m illion. Meanwhile, King announced that Lennox Lewis w ill fig h t O liv e r M cCall forthe vacant World Boxing Council heavyweight title in January at Nashville No meetings scheduled after union rejects owners modifications There were no baseball labor meetings scheduled for Tuesday after the Players Association rejected the owners’ requests for modifications to a proposed labor agreement. Owners strongly rejected a tentative agreement reached by management negotiator Randy Levine and union head Donald Eehr during the W orld Series. Eighteen o f the 30 owners o ffic ia lly voted down the agreement last Wednesday in Chicago. Actingcommissioner Bud Selig asked Eehr for modifications on the labor deal Tuesday in a meeting at union headquarters in New York, but was turned down. “ I feel sad,” Fehr said ‘When you begin a process and deal with a negotiator, you expect to continue dealing with him . ( Management negotiator Randy Levine) is what the fifth guy we’ ve dealt with. How do you begin again (at this point)?” 49ers’ Young “very doubtful” for Sunday game San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young is “ very doubtful” for Sunday’ s game against Baltimore after suffering two concussions in the last three weeks. “ Steve’s status is obviously very doubtful,” said Niners coach George Seifert. “ He’ ll be visiting w ith a neurologist to examine the situation. Elvis Grbac w ill likely start Sunday for the Niners (7-3) with Jeff Brohmas the backup. Young suffered his second concussion in three weeks after he was hit by lineman Chad Hennings and linebacker Jim Schwantz in the second quarter o f last Sunday’s 20-17 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The 34-year-old Holyfield was not given much o f a chance by most o f the boxing experts against Tyson, but was in control for most o f the fight. H olyfield knocked the former champion down in the sixth round and finished him o ff 37 seconds into the 11th. After nearly taking Tyson out in the I Oth round, H olyfield stalked the former champ to begin the 11th. Tyson, who appeared dazed, was unable todefendhimselfas Holyfield landed a series o f combinations. Be ginning with left jabs and finishing with an overhand right, H olyfield picked apart Tyson. Referee M itch Halpern stepped in and stopped the bout, saving Tyson from further punishment. Following the fight, the always gracious H olyfield cited his religious dedication as the reason for his suc cess. “ You can’t choose against God,” he said. “ I did what it took to win. What the spirit leads me to do, I do.” “ He fought a good fight,” said Tyson, who was knocked down for Holyfield. Tyson’ s only other loss came against Buster Douglas in 1990, pos sibly the only greater upset in heavy weight boxing history. O f H olyfie ld ’ s three career losses, two have come against Riddick Bowe and the other was a decision loss to Michael Moorer, the International Boxing Federation champion. /y REESE’S OIL, INC. /R u \ Furnace Repair 7 Day Service/24 Hours Service A To Z C onstruction C o .
