The utility’s increased cost o f purchasing power and fuel was the largest factor for the rate increase, com pany officials said. Other rea sons included higher federal taxes and investments to increase the reli ability o f PG E 's generating plants. In addition, continued grow th in the PGE service territory' has required improvements and expansion o f the utility's distribution system. Average monthly bills for resi dential customers will increase by S4.20 going from S54.45 to $58.65. This includes an increase o f $1 per month in the residential monthly ser vice fee which covers the fixed costs o f providing electrical service. Larger commercial and indus trial customers will see an average increase o f 2.6 percent while small commercial custom er prices will go up an average o f 5.6 percent. "I he PUC also authorizes PGE to continue collecting $14 million per year toward the cost o f decom missioning the Trojan nuclear plant. In addition.
