T R P C staff also conduct som e local transportation planning by intergovernm ental co n tract. The 1995 budget supports 5 FTEs for transportation p la n ning. Within the next six months, Congress is expected to autho rize the transfer of the Old Post Office at 511 NW Broadway from the Federal General Service Adm inistration to the City of Portland. This property includes a surface parking lot im m ediately adjacent to the building on its west side. The long term objectives for this property are to; 1) Extend the North Park Blocks by utilizing the adjacent surface parking; 2) Extend NW Eighth from NW Glisan to NW Hoyt; and 3) Redevelop and preserve the historic Post Office building as a viable com m ercial/office building. Prior to accepting the assignm ent of this property, the Comm ission will undertake an evaluation of the physical and econom ic feasibility of short and long term strategies for the redevelopm ent of this building. The purpose of this effort will be to determ ine the immediate and long term financial liabilities (and benefits) of accepting the assignm ent of this property.
