Performances will continue through February 23 at the Forum Theatre, located in Build ing Three o f the Rock Creek campus of Portland Com m unity College, 17705 NW Springville Road. “ A...My Name is A lice” is an irreverent m usical celebration of the pleasures and problems o f being a woman in the 1990s. Its twenty-odd songs and sketches range from moving “A.. My Name is A lice." and heartwarming to witty and dow n right outrageous. Enthusiastic critical and audience response resulted in an extended run for the Oregon Stage Company production last spring, and the play has a history o f long runs in other cities such as Seattle, M inneapo lis, San Francisco, New York, and else where. Directed and choreographed by Michelle Blackm on, ‘‘A...My Name Is A lice” features a highly talented cast of Portland actresses: Linda Brown, Gail Hebert, Brenda Phillips, Cherie Price andC hrisse Roccaro. W ho are the finest singers and carvers in your com m u nity? Have you written down your fam ily’s traditional recipes? These are the arts o f everyday life that the Portland African-American Folk Arts Project is working to preserve. They are looking for people who prac tice these and other traditional arts. They are also looking for community m em bers interested in learning to rec ord and preserve this rich local heri tage. All interested persons are invited to an introductory meeting.
