SB A Awards Grant Minority Business Group Portland C om m unity C ollege and the O regon A ssociation o f M inority E ntrepreneurs accepted a $149,774 aw ard from th U.S. Small B usiness A dm inistration Jan. 24 to im prove the success o f m inority-ow ned businesses throughout Oregon. R epresentatives from PCC and O A M E w ere on hand at Portland City Hall to receive the grant from SBA officials. Those present include O A M E E xecutive D irector Sam Brooks, PCC President D an M oriarty, SBA Regional A dm inistrator H arold W olf and Erline M. Patrick, SBA M inority Small B usiness and C apital O w nership D evelopm ent A ssociate A dm inistrator from W ashington, D.C. Patrick oversees all o f the ag en cy ’s program s to assist the grow th and developm ent o f m inority-ow ned sm all businesses. P C C ’s Sm all B usiness D evelopm ent C enter team ed with O A M E to develop an innovative program that provides targeted m anagem ent and technical assistance to d isad vantaged businesses. The PC C /O A M E program will provide one-on-one business co u n sel ing, w orkshops and sem inars and business plan developm ent to eligible firm s. B rooks said. I Rose City Connection Offers Six Scholarships R ose C ity C onnection, Inc. offers six (’6) 5 5 0 0 scholarships to deserving A frican- American students who reside in the greater m etropolitan area o f the City o f Portland. In addition. Rose City C onnection w ill also ‘ aw ard a full one (1) y ear scholarship w hich w ill cover tuition costs to P ortland C o m m unity C ollege. Scholarship funds m ust be used by applicants to pursue a college education or vocational training leading to a degree and/or proficiency in a profession or an applied science. Rose City C onnection, Inc. is a public service organization founded in 1983. A l though its activities and goodw ill cross m any cultural and econom ic lines. Rose C ity C onnection is predom inately an A fri can-American organization with strong roots in the com m unity. T he m inim um cum ulative high school G P A o f all applicants to be considered is • 2.50. Students m ust also m eet the fo llo w - ‘ ing criterion: 1.
