Participants w ill be involved in six weeks of fun and educational "explor ers activities," revolving around areas such as gardening, outdoor cooking, nutrition, theatre, bicycle safety/repair, one-on-one basketball clinic and aerospace. The 4-H summer program is open to all children ages 8 through 11. Sessions will be held Monday through Thursday during afternoon hours beginning July 6 and ending August 14, 1987. Charge for the program is $2.50 per particpant. Enrollment is limited and on a first come, first served basis, so register today! B ro w n Firehouse Theater's Weiss Retires Founder and artistic director o f the Portland Park Bureau's Firehouse Theater fo r the past 21 years, Florine E. Weiss will retire from her position effective July 8. After attending Portland's Jefferson High School, Ms. Weiss graduated from the professional drama school at Chicago's Goodman Memorial Thea ter in 1953 and went to w ork in radio, night clubs, summer stock, and bur lesque in the mid-west and Florida. Upon her return to Portland in 1958, she began directing theater and teaching for the Portland Bureau of Parks and Recreation. When the Park Bureau bought the old fire station on Southwest M ontgomery Street, Ms. Weiss immediately began working to create the Firehouse Theater. During her 45 years in the theater, Ms. Weiss has directed 227 produc tions. "T he Private Ear" and "The Public Eye", currently playing at the Firehouse Theater, is the fifty-eighth production she has directed there.
